I don't get this linking policy...

There is a section in one website's copyright notice that I don't understand...

"...If you operate a Web site and wish to link to website.com, you may link only to the home page, www.website.com, and not to any other page or subdomain of website.com..."

Is there a method to this, or is it just the site operators preference?

If this site sells, say auto parts, and have a section about tires, and I operate a stie only about tires, wouldnt it be better to link from my tires site to their tires sub-page(s) rather than link to their main, general page?

I think it is to avoid someone creating a kind of agateway page that looks to have content but really all of the supposed content links link to this persons's content. I guess their idea is that they make some of their money while people are browsing the site with ads or whatever adn htey would lose it if someone made links to all their content. Then the other persons page would be making money off of the first guys content. Did that make any sense? That might be hard ot understadn because it is hard for me to explain. I konw htat i prefer people linking to my main page not my ocntent since I make most of my revenue from the main page.

Thanks, that makes sense. I guess I didnt get it, since I leave all ads OFF of my main page, and have a few adsense or affilliate links on the content pages themselves.

The question is: how are they going to enforce this "policy"?
