I don't get the ranking of pages

I haven't been posting here for a while since nothing really important has happened to my sites. They have not gone up in serp's and not down, so pretty normal since january.
The only thing that I can see and that I don't understand is that I have 2 pages that I am not proud of at all that I actually get the most traffic from to one of my site (nope... not in my sig) and the 2 pages that drives the most traffic has a lot of keywords, long title and long description. You could say they are spammy and shouldn' even be there but I don't dare remove them since they bring me a lot of traffic. I have tried to remove/change all pages that looks spammy/are spammy but after that I don't get a lot of traffic from them anymore. Guess there are more competition now with a lot less keywords, short and sweet title and a "real" description.
I have been trying to direct traffic to the targeted pages but so far no good results. Maybe it is too early but it has been 2 months now.
So, why are Google ranking them high in there SERP's?

I guess the spammy pages are in niches where there isn't too much competition. Track your logs to see the precise things people type in to get to those pages and write good content on those subjects. Get the spammy page back in there, and link it to the new content.
It can take a while for new content to rank though. So be patient. It usually takes a new article on my site some 3 months at least to rank highly.
