A person asks for link exchanges so I reply asking for clarification about his site and my post gets removed and I get an infraction.

Are you not even allowed to ask for clarification on a person's site or where they are placing their links etc if it's not clear from their post or from looking at their site?

    I don't get it.

You are probably exhibiting behavior that spammers have used in the past. There are a lot of people who are paid to post and they try to increase their post count. Don't take it personally.

Messages that are pertinent to you and thread starter belong in a PM. These include I'm interested type message, send details type messages etc.

If they intentionally chose not to include the site info, any requests belong for that info should be made via PM to express interest as Shannon said. Otherwise we get people leaving out a lot of information on purpose just to get others to bump their thread. While the default thread sorting has changed to help combat bumping, existing rules are still in place regarding what may or may not be posted in BST threads.
