I was certainly looking foward to it, but I just don't think this is an update - or at least not one that is working like it should.
LOL, 7 people so far voted they don't. PR means more money, etc. If you earn a living online then you should very much care. Just wondering why you started this poll if you don't care, because if you truly didn't care you wouldn't care who cares.
Agreed, PR brings me most my money... i guess the people voting for that only care about their adsense earnings.
I guess I do care in a way. If they go up I'm happy, if they stay the same I'm happy and if they go down I'm a little upset. Nothing that's going to stop me carrying on though. And for the co-op, as others have said, then it's an excellent thing for PR to go up. I don't obessively site and watch them in case they go up though, I wait till a suitabley large thread appears on DP
PR brings more money? Well depends if you are selling links or not, using that PR. Or if you run the coop, yes PR gives you more weight which in turn you can use to help in SERPS. PR is not the end-all. Online customer don't go to a shopping site and say "ohh this site has a PR8! I'll buy my ipod from here" Come oooon! Give me a break! There are a few DP old-timers around in the trenches that don't give a rats ass about PR or getting listed on DMOZ for that "magical link" and are making a very serious living online. All you have to do it poke around the forums and you'll see what I mean. PR is an indicator of everything you have done to your site and how G views it thats all. IMHO - If you're hooked on PR great but your sales aren't going to double or tripple just because your PR1 site went to PR5/6. I know of one example where an individual is making $20-$25K a month with a PR3 site selling textiles. He has also being ranked #1 in serps for his keyword for over 5 years. Someone said it very clearly on another thread "PR is mostly a webmaster ego thing"
I sell sites so all the sites I sold telling the new owners they'd get PR are now showing PR. So it's a little vindicating. But since this year I am moving away from selling sites and just building my network this update means pretty much nothing to me. TBPR is just for people that sell links and sites. So considering that most true SEOs (and a few of us wannabes) know that PR updates constantly and TBPR is usually outdated very quickly, the update doesn't matter too much. I have sites with PR0 that ranked well for my keywords well before this update...
Who's to say if he didn't have a higher PR he wouldn't show up for other search terms and increase his sales? PR is a part of the formula where you rank in Google and thus does directly have an input on the traffic you recieve and traffic = $$$. PR matters to a lesser or greater degree to pretty much everyone IMHO.
he's ranking in the top 8 for his other keywords NO one knows the exact contributing weight of PR to the formula! I know of PR6/7 sites that are making low $xxx per month and don't even rank for their keywords. It IS about generating TRAFFIC but IT IS ALSO about converting that traffic. Sorry, I don't agree. Many people don't even know it exists. See attached sample of PR0 sites ranking well for a keyword phrase.
I get traffic from Google directory which ranks in order of PR and I'm #3. This initself proves PR plays a factor. There are many other directories that rank this way. PR is a factor in many things whether you know it exists or doesn't, it affects us all.
Were arguing about apples and oranges here... The question is do you care about THIS update. As in this toolbar PR (TBPR) update not PR in general. Of course PR affects your rankings. But TBPR rankings are irrelevant after a short period of time.
LOL ... okay would you then care to explain why a PR0 site ranks better than PR4/5 sites in the illustration provided above?? edit: I'm not against meaningful discussion, please understand that but please provide your insights with evidence not off the cuff statements.
