Hello everybody. I was reading some threats and it seems that most webmasters want a high PR but, let me tell you something. I run a website, well, I run several websites but just one is old enough. Anyway, this website has 11 keywords at this time, 9 of those keywords are already in the first Google's SERP, the other two keywords are positioned on the second one. The competition for these keywords go from 300,000 to 1'200,000 websites in the results. The most important thing is that I could do that with a PR=0, that's right, only with the exchanging links technique. That's is why I do NOT believe in pagerank.
If you don't believe in PR then don't believe. As you said "The competition for these keywords go from 300,000 to 1'200,000 websites in the results. " This doesn't matter. If the keyword is getting more searches then that does matter. If there are results of keywords go from 300,000 to 1'200,000 websites in the results but don't have enough searches. Then what's the value for it.
I agree 50/50 with you I believe PR can be a good thing, but it's not the most important thing, PR can help you, but keywords outweigh it most of the time, but I guess it all depends on the person.
PR is mostly considered by the people who are interested in selling links or have advertise section on their websites. There are buyers who pay a huge amount for such links.
PR is not that important but it still can not be totally ignored when you say that "The competition for these keywords go from 300,000 to 1'200,000 websites in the results.", the question come to my mind is how much the search volume for the keyword. The number of the results doesnt mean anything but the search volume of the result. The best will be high search volume and low search result. The reason is that low search result is more targeted than high search result
Now a days PR is really not that important but TrustRank is, and Google gives more preference to TrustRank as compared to the PR, which still is being considered by majority to be important.
Page rank is an important thing for your website. You being at pr 0 for a long time even when your seo is on point just goes to show you need to improve so i think its important to know your site PR.
netdealer, I am with you, I would rather be #1 on Google than be on page 2 of Google with a PR of 9! Page rank is old hat.
Websites with a page rank of 8 or 9 are making hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Much more profitable than your website which has a page rank of 0. We are all here to make money.
Ok, although I have been almost two years in this ebusiness thing, I can always learn something new. Like the TrustRank mentioned by digitalX, that is something new for me, and the inevitable question is, how can I know my TrustRank? and, how can I increase it? But, another question comes to my mind, like jwmann2 said, "we are all here to make money" and that's a huge truth but, the question is, the websites that are making hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more and have 8 or 9 in PR, are they making that amount of money because of the PR? or, those are so cool and well built websites that they are making that kind of money and the PR is just a consequence of the high quality and the long time online?
