I have a question about alexa. It says my site has a rank of
Traffic Rank for rentalcow.com: 2,664,264 There is no way I am getting this sort of traffic. This is a legit question and I would be greatful for an answer. The question is how is alexa showing this high of an rank.

that doesn't mean you get a lot of traffic.

If the rank is lower, you have more traffic. My website was rank at 5,000,000 + before and now rank at 200,000+ as a traffice increase.

Im not sure how Alexa measure the traffic. They also sell these records.

    Aaaah, such wishful thinking.

Alexa is a dodgy old ranking tool where 1 is best and 2million stinks.

They used to get their data from a UK based ISP called Tivoli and from their toolbar. That meant the data was irrelevant for most sites.

    It's a RANK not a traffic count.

Alexa is the most inacurate webmaster resource out there...
only good thing about alexa is the free thumbnails of your website

After the site has been up for a significant amount of time the ranking seems to get more accurate. Sites that have been online for a year or more tend to have Alexa rankings that reflect their actual traffic, you still have to have a vague idea of the conversion.

That's true, good point. A lot of people do not realize this and when FastClick turns them down they can't figure out why. This is often the case. When applying to any of those programs be sure you apply with a site that has a good alexa rank, even if you plan on using their ads on another url. It is much easier to add a site later then to try and get approved on little traffic.

I don't trust Alexa, their traffic always seems too be off. They also seem to list low traffic sites that used to be high, way too high in their list
