Hello everybody 1 - why people "follow" someone on twitter ? 2 - will this bring traffic to the "followed" website ? thank you Dario .
1. because they are interested with someone's topic or website. So, by following them, he or she will get to know the latest update/activity done by that person. 2. Yes, if that person put a link in the tweets and the followers follow the links, they will be brought to the website and thus traffic increase.
Because they either do not have much of a life, and or they are trying to sell something. They think that the more people they follow, the more who will follow them back, thus getting more visitors to their sites. Yes. You left off question #3: Does this bring in much traffic. Nope. Next to signatures, this is one of the worse ways to market.
Twitter will bring you very little traffic, maybe 10-15 people a day but you have to follow a lot of people. The problem with Twitter is that they will suspend your account if you follow too many people per day. I know someone whose account got suspended and they followed around 200 people per day, and the people they followed were all interested in the niche being advertised and gave great feedback about the tweets since the tweets were not selling anything but providing useful info on the topic. Twitter only said to them the account was suspended because of strange activity. Basically, their servers are very slow and crash too often and they do not allow people to advertise their services anymore by suspending their accounts. Twitter will slowly disappear from the map especially if they continue to suspend commercial accounts like that and offer very poor service. I would say 50% of the accounts on Twitter are commercial accounts. Suspending such accounts will leave them with nobody especially when only 40% of people come back to Twitter after the 1st month of registering. I would focus on making my site offer better services than waste time with something that will bring very little success to your site.
