I currently list on google.co.uk but not when 'pages from the UK' is selected? Why is this? How does Google work this out? Thanks all.
If your site does not have a UK domain name and is not hosted in the UK, Google will not treat your pages as being from the UK.
I know from checking other .com sites that are UK companies which use US servers and still manage to rank in .co.uk uk pages - how is this so? Would using a UK server really help?
If you use a server which is physically located in the UK and have a global TLD such as .com, Google will treat your site as a UK site. What other websites show as a page from the UK but have a .com domain and host in the United States?
I have a similar situation, (my hosting is in Europe, not actually in the u.k) - if I were to register a .co.uk site as well, how do I prevent myself from having a duplicate content problem?
You'd need to do a 301 redirect from your .com site to .co.uk if you want to avoid duplicate content. But you don't need a .co.uk site to be listed in the UK sites only option... You just need your hosting to have UK IP, even though the server is physically in another country.
"But you don't need a .co.uk site to be listed in the UK sites only option... You just need your hosting to have UK IP, even though the server is physically in another country." Really? Can I request a UK IP from my USA hosting company then? Thanks
A .com site hosted in the US will never appear in the UK only results. Sometimes US servers can have IP addresses registered as being in the UK to get around this.
How long will it take for Google to relalise my new UK IP and server and list me on 'pages from the uk'?
