Hello, I've created a website inet411.com. The home page is just a coming soon page. There is a wordpress installed at inet411.com/blog. I'm getting a huge amount of traffic. No one is signing up or writing anything. I'm guessing the traffic is somehow fake because 50% is direct requests and 50% is from other websites. But when I visit these other sites...my link is not on that site anywhere? I am very confused. Also if anyone has any advice on what I can do with the site. Any suggestions at all would be very helpful. I've tried everything to make money online, nothing has worked so far. So I've given up, but I love writing. I may not be the best at it but I have a love for it. So I figured I'd make a site that utilized this. So I have this wordpress script installed. How do I get other to contribute? How can I make money from this site?Adsense? Also I wanted to create something more. Something more than an article site. If you read some of my articles - not the ones I grabbed from other sites, but the ones I actually wrote. You will see some of the ideas I have had in the past. I have a serious domain addiction. I now own over 500. I get this great idea for a site buy a domain and then get another idea buy another domain and forget about my first idea. Anyway I'm wondering if I should stick with an article/blog type site or add forums and a search engine, maybe online stores etc... Not sure what to do with this. Any advice would be great. Thank everyone here I appreciate your opinions
In answer to your first question: it seems likely that you're being hit by referrer spammers. They fire bots at your site inserting referrer URLs so that you go and visit the sites, thinking that they've linked to you, when actually that haven't. If you're displaying a list of referrers on the site you should disable it since it's just displaying spam links.
Holy crap, you're in a mess, aren't you? Too many ideas and not enough action. I'll be an amateur psychologist for a minute and suggest your post is a bit like your approach to what you do on the internet to try to make money; erratic. You don't make money online just because you throw a website up and slap some ads on it. You can do this once you have secured a niche that you can exploit, but to get kicked off, you need to actually work at a site and allow it to mature for a while. My advice to you is to decide on a subject and make a small website about it using one of your domains. You're not allowed to buy ANY MORE until you have built this website. Write a list. Your list should include what the website is going to be about, the subjects you need to research to build some original content, a few headlines for the articles you are going to write and what you need to do to accomplish the website. It doesn't have to be a big list; indeed, it's preferable that it is only a small list with only a few things on it: big enough to get the site built but small emough to accomplish. Tick things off as you get through them. Set yourself a time limit of two weeks for your first 5 - 10 page site about your chosen subject. At this stage, it really doesn't matter what your site is about -- I'd suggest a hobby or an interest. In two weeks time, you will have accomplished your website but much more importantly, you will have begun to function like someone who builds websites rather than someone who thinks about building websites. Oh yeah, the traffic could be ping-traffic from the blog automatically pinging that it has been updated or it could be referrer spam. Either way, don't worry about it.
thank you mcfox. That was exactly what I was looking for, I guess I already knew that but just needed it put into words. I guess I'm just impatient and looking for quick money rather than waiting to see if one of my ideas pans out.
