I charged about £250 for this should I have charged more?

I wrote 10 articles and published them on 2 article publishing sites
I wrote 20 link articles and posted them on 2 sites
I wrote 20 smaller articles and published them on another site

The sites are AsSense Revenue Sharing sites and will produce an ongoing revenue.

I sold a link on each (50) to a company who supply a relevant service. For 6 months on the articles I charged £250. I've arranged to review after 6 months and quote for the next 6 months.

Was that a good deal? Is there anything wrong with doing this? I thought it much better than magazine advertising...

I believe yes, it was quite a good deal. £250 is approximately $500 i believe, which makes an average of $10 per link for 6 months(or permanent?).
That rate is quite good and it is quite difficult to find buyers willing to pay so much these days considering the cheap labour that is sometimes available.
When people agree to post on forums for $0.01 per post or write 500 word articles for $0.50, it freaks me out.

Thanks, I thought it was a reasonable price. The articles were already written and published to make AdSense income but this made the project more profitable and immediate. I want them to take a further six months or a year at the end of 6 months - it will be a mission removing the links... The buyer didn't come from DP and I agree about the price some people are willing to work for. Article writers who sell their material for $.0.50 should realise they'd make more if they published on an article site/s and their own blogs. I wish they would as their activities drive down the prices...

Soon the penny will drop with mainstream advertisers that deals like this are much better value than magazine advertising. This job came from a company who pay £500 for an advert in regional magazines and get nothing from it...

You got a good deal. So many outsourcers willing to work for a dollar or two an hour these days...

in the REAL WORLD that's incredibly cheap. but you can't measure it in links, you need to measure it in time and success. for example if you spent lots of time and the results weren't very good, it's a bad deal for the client and a passable deal for you. if you spend a lot of time and the results were good, it's a good deal all round. if you spend only a day on it and had great results, it's a brilliant deal for you.

personally i think you should be charging more though AND offering ongoing SEO

Thanks. Compared to what magazine advertising offers/achieves for double the price I got - the links have already paid for themselves so I'm confident that in 6 months time they'll have covered their costs and made over and above.

I don't really want to offer anything ongoing. The idea is to make enough money to let me get on with my own ongoing projects...

That's a reasonable rate. If you can make long term passive income from the articles, that will be a big fat bonus!

It is a good deal but you can always try to ask more and when it is not working you are going back to this price.

The articles were published in December 2009 and the client is very pleased with the results - I intend to up te price after 6 months or approach a competitor to take it over... Thanks for the feedback.

It might just be me but I personally am more than happy to pay prices over 250 for quality work. Those who charge 0.50c per article usually produce terribly written content.

Try to get more assignments from the company and sell articles in a set of 10.

Always good to know there are people who will pay a fair price... I'm going to hit the phone in a couple of weeks and target some disgruntled magazine advertisers - I'll have two months of stats then and should also have some testimonials.

Good work always pays and pays well. Treat your initial supposedly low offer as an investment to test your efforts and motivate yourself to undertake more such projects! :)

For renewal, do give your existing client a chance to make their own offer as I feel their price would surely reflect their own willingness to continue with the profitable arrangement... even more! :)

    Regards,
