I have a blog http://techattitude.com. About a week ago, I increased the priorities for the posts in my sitemap and also increased the update frequency. And after two days, the traffic started decreasing drastically. But the number of pages results in Google when I do a search as site:techattitude.com/* has incrased. Is it because of the sitemaps that I am losing my Google search engine traffic? I am hearing many blogs complaining about their Google traffic slump in the last few days. What could be the reason? Please help me out.

If you have changed the frequency in sitemap and your site is not changed with that frequency then google will penalize u.. If change frequency of your website ok with sitemap then ...may there was some other issue :)

My blog is updated regularly, like on a daily basis. I don't understand why is the traffic decreasing when the pages in the google index are increasing on the other hand?

Sitemap has nothing to do with traffic.
    It helps in indexing only.

no, you won't get any penalty no matter how ridiculous your sitemap are. Sitemap.xml just a side help, read sitemaps.org

You did something else and you think the sitemap change caused it but it didn't. Sitemaps only help Google with indexing and finding new pages. They have no effect on rankings.

    Hi,

In my own experiences, changing priority and update frequency in your sitemap file would not have such effects on your sites. I think Google might change its algorithm on blogs ranking recently.

    all the best,
