For your information, the blog that I'm going to install the stat plugin is a self hosted blog. They provide me a link to my wordpress.com/profile to retrieve my API key. I did that and I got the same error.

One question, why do I have to reinstall the whole blog? What about my posts?

I have created a new wordpress.com account and key in the api key into my self hosted wordpress blog. Still I get this error.

Error from last API Key attempt:

server error. requested method wpStats.check_key does not exist.

Um, no. Please do us a favor and leave neg rep for those folks up there. Maybe they'll take the hint.

The email address you use with your wordpress.com account has to match with an email address associated with your blog. I can't remember if it has to be the admin account but that would probably be a good idea.

Also what specific version of wp and the stats plugin are you using?

For your information, my previous Wordpress.com account has the same email address with my associated email address in my self hosted blog.

My blog version is 2.9.1 and the Stats plugin version is 1.6.
