    Yes this is still available. Nearly all niches are accepted apart from the obvious ones.

    It is shown in the Google news listings so anyone searching G News for your topic would return your results quite high for some time. Also any websites that use Google news as a source would display the results too as well other sources

    Visitors vary from the niche, subject etc. Something a little more interesting would attract more readers. I have done some that have received thousands of hits. I try to make the headline as attractive as possible.

    Not only are you getting a boost in visitors though, its an almost immediate listing in Google search, along with anchors, so its all good for SEO too
