YAY! Sorry if it's annoying but I'm excited. For the first time I broke $20 today. I just had to share. :D I'm at $20.61 so far for the day and I still have 9+ hours to go. I usually get a surge of traffic/clicks about 3 hours before the day ends so it'll be interesting to see what the final total is. But for now I'm doing a happy dance. :)

Until now the highes was @ $17.80 and usually closer to $12.

My goal is to average $30/day. Once that happens I'm hitting the road since that (along with other projects) can support my travels.

Now I just need to get more traffic!!!

Honestly, I'd love to give you tips but I have no idea why it's working for me. :) I think I just got lucky. Hopefully it holds. I keep expecting that it'll stop but it seems to keep going up. Luckily I'm in a decent paying niche which helps a lot. My average click is $.94.

Not sure what your niche is, but that might have something to do with it. Have you put your site up for review so people could give you feedback about your placement? That might help.

    Good luck.

Well done, that is great news, hope to be at that one time.

Must be good to have another source of income.

How many sites is this, just the one? and how many views if it's just one?

    Again

Congratulatons! may it inspire you to further improvements!!

Good job! What kind of CTR do u get daily? How long have you had your site up? So do you usually get around 200+ impressions daily? Can you tell us if your niche is in health, finance, travel, etc.? Are you ranking #1 in Google for your each of top keywords that people are finding through the search engines? Keep it up and you will soon reach $30/day easily with a bit more traffic.

@mrtrance - my CTR is in the teens. It's been up for 2 weeks. It's a finance site. I am not #1 for my keywords...and probably won't ever be for my landing page. But I'm working on creating state-specific pages that I hope will go to #1 because there is a LOT less competition (1300 results vs 300,000).

    @vairo - it's for one page.

I'm now at $30.83. Adsense being slow today is killing me! :) I was at $26.48 for an hour then suddenly at $30+

Thanks for the info. But how did you bulid enough links and optimize so fast to get that kind of traffic? I am assuming that for whatever keyword you are being found that your site comes up on the first page of the SERPs. Is most of your traffic from Google search engine? What type of marketing did you do to achieve such good results? Article marketing? Link exchange? Social Bookmarking? I assume you are targeting more of 3 and 4 word longtail keywords?

Thats a bit easier when you live in a bigger city.

I actually have a friend that just moved to Portland... scored a job with Intel over there.

But, I remember when I moved to Chicago in 2001, and gas prices from my hometown were 1.50 or so... and in Chicago it was 2.50. I was pisssssssed.

Anyhow, good work with your site! My goal is 100/day. Currently averaging 5. :p

@mrtrance and others who have PMd me, here's what I've been doing:

Honestly, if I had tricks I'd share them. I think I just got lucky. My site is a turn-key info site that I purchased for $29. The adsense was already laid out on it. I re-wrote the text, added some additional info and there you go. Here's how it's set up:

    On the landing page:
1 - 120x240 unit on the left under other internal and external link lists. ( I just added the newslettr sign-up above it which bumped it below the fold so I may actually move it up and put it in between the internal link set and the external link set so it gets better visibility.)
1 - 160x600 unit on the right <- this is the highest CTR unit
1 - horizontal link unit in between the main text and the link to the info that most people come to the site to get.

    On internal pages
The right and left column links stay the same and I have a large box link at the bottom of each internal page

I also have 2 banner ads on each page. One at the very top and one at the very bottom. These are for affiliate programs.

I currently have 8 content pages and one download (a list).

I am in the process of breaking out my list into state-by-state pages and adding additional information to each one. This will do the following:

1 - add content to the site
2 - allow me to run adwords directly to those deep pages with MUCH less competition and for about $.05/click rather than $.17/click that it's costing me now. I'll also have a better chance of getting page 1 for those pages since there are only @ 1300 search results for those keywords.

For marketing I've done the following:
1 - run a $10/day adwords campaign - most days they don't use it all so it costs me @ $7.
2 - I've submitted to some directories and just purchased a submission package to get into more.
3 - I've posted articles on many article sites (3 were just accepted into ezinearticles and one has already been republished)
4 - I participate in 2 very active forums that are loosely related to the niche and allow links in footers and which I was already an established member of for a long time
5 - I've bookmarked it on all of the social networks

But really, 99% of my traffic right now comes from adwords. It's only been 2 weeks so the link building has not done much yet for traffic. Once I'm getting a steady stream of organics from Google and Yahoo I'll drop adwords.

My keywords are almost all 4 words, many are 5 or 6. I have about 30 set up in adwords and every few days I'm removing the bad performers.

Another thing I've just done is set up a newsletter (mad I didn't do it earlier, think I probably missed out on a lot of subs). I'll send out tips each week and a free ebook each month. New subs automatically get a free book (which I've shown them selling elsewhere for almost $20).

I think a lot has to do with content. The content is in demand, useful and free (was originally meant to be a for-sale list when I purchased it). My average time on page is over 3.5 minutes and if I took out the people who leave immediately it'd be closer to 5 minutes. About 30% of people view more than 4 pages. 87% are new visitors and I have a 42% bounce rate.

So there you go. Hopefully that helps. :)

    BTW - it's at $41.02 now. I'm kinda freaking out! :D

@.07 I won't live in a city that requires a car. I've not had one since I moved overseas in 2001 and I don't plan on changing that any time soon - if ever. Chicago is a great city for public transport. I'm from there and when I lived downtown I didn't have a car. Was so easy to either walk, cab or El. Portland's easy because it's small.

Thanks for the good luck - back at you!

Do you live overseas now? If so, where?

Not in Chicago now, was only there for a year.
