Ok I am not sure if this was the smartest decision I ever ever made, but I bought a 2 month text link from a pr 9 site, which should be up next month sometime. The site I bought it for is my new directory websgateway dot com . It has a pr of 0 and has only been up a few days. Do you think it will drastically help my pagerank and traffic or was it a waste of money?

Sure sounds like a waste of money... most PR9 sites don't pass PR, and many of them aren't even real PR9s

One of the worst things you can do as a webmaster is try to buy yourself a PR

well you may be right about the buying the pr, but it is a real pr9 site. It has been around over 8 years, and is .edu site. It is educational based. Google seems to like those kinda of sites so we will see.

So since its a 2 month link, after the 2 months when it is removed (asuming you dont renew it) would all PR benefits be lost?

If you could it would make for a great test ----- If you didn't link to the site from anywhere else and you were able to keep the link up until the next PR update, you could have yourself a definitive answer on whether or not it passes PR to your site.... Valuable info

It will make a great test - post the results at the next update. Bear in mind that a PR9 link to a brand new web directory is very likely to be discounted as a paid link though.......

Having your link there for two months isnt going to do much for you. If you really want to see if it is beneficial you will have to keep it there much longer.

The notion that PR9's don't pass PR seems absurd, maybe fryman can tell us how he knows this.

A PageRank 9 is pretty high. I think it will make your website's PR go up.

I only have a PR3! MSN only has a Page Rank of 9.

If it hasn't been blacklisted for selling links then you'll get the PR... probably PR7 but depends on the outbounds... Problem is though that when you stop buying the link then your PR is gone. If you have a directory and you bought a high PR to get paid submissions, then drop the link after the next toolbar export, you're essentially scamming people paying for inclusion.

Age of the link does not afffect PR, only serps.

I believe two months is sufficient to boost your PR with an aged high PR link. I've just gone from 0 to 5 for a two month old site after linking with a similar industry aged (5 years) PR5 site.

As to the problem of losing the link, well work hard to get your overall links up and you may be OK. Good luck.

I'm sure you will see some benefits from buying the link but overall probably wasn't a good investment in money. Could be wrong though lets us know.

What I am noticing is that many sites selling links have a high PR but no traffic. So people who know how to play the PR game profit from selling links, which go to other sites selling links, and on down the chain. If you have a site that makes money from product sales or adsense, buying these links may be beneficial. If you just game the PR system you don't have many income opportunities except selling links.

I have talked to the owners on the pr9 site, and we have worked out a deal where I am going to be on there for 12 months atleast. This is going to be very interesting what happens. I also well the site linked to another pr8 directory and also a pageranked 7 directory that I own myself. It took me over a year to get that pr7 on my other directory so this will be neat to find out

since you still have not got the link and if you feels that it's a waste of money than you can cancel the transaction. I hope the seller will be understandable enough. Though we can not say that it's a waste of money. you never know, it may turn out to be a wise decision
