I am unhappy with questionable ads in my category!

First, I run a well reputed ecommerce games store and I am interested in setting up on coop. So I set it up on my dev site under "Recreation". I was very unhappy with several of the links because they were not appropriate to the category.

But a few in particular REALLY made me upset.

    a link to www.juicyduff.com - a very innapropriate site
    a link to www.downloadz.ws - a site advertising an illegal software/movies scam

I am not sure how these ads passed. There should be the ability to review the ads on our sites. And, there should be a LOT more categories for more specific targeting.

Is there an official place I am supposed to report these sites?

Holy cow! I just saw another one for www dot henheaven dot co.uk - some kind of kinky girls night out page. i have to say i am entirely offended by that content. i don't mind engagement rings or hotels or martial arts supplies or fantasy football, but i can't chance linking to something lewd. what can be done??

p.s. i would pay good money for this if i had a bit more control over the content on my site! maybe make a PREMIUM version for $20 a month that features better ad control?? just an idea, shawn. no need to pay me for it :D

What is wrong with the hilary duff site?

edit: also, you mentioned in your category. The co op currently does not support themed links. It will in the future, but so far the ads on your site don't have anything to do with categories. He has you enter the information now for future reference.

Keep the flame burning my man, that way your problem will be addressed.

I am hoping Shawn develops an automated system where folks can report spam sites or bad content/sites that link to other bad sites for review by co-op managers.

Give em hell buddy :p  :p

What is wrong with the hillary duff site? how about "juicy" duff? that is a pretty sexual reference - to a MINOR no less.

What site do you have the co-op on, can you leave the URL so we can look at your site

PS: The Hillary Duff site was nothing bad as Wendy said, the name of the site is not offensive and unless it links to other sites that are bad I would pass that site, it seems harmless.

I have not looked at the other sites yet my man, but that Duff site is fine

Yeh, the Duff site appears innocent.

The downloadz site I don't know what they are doing, so I don't know.

The henheaven site.... probably shouldn't be here. Male escorts and all.

    ====

ps: look for them and you can find ones that shouldn't be here, but overall the coop is pretty darn decent.

There is no reason that the co-op should reject the downloadz site either.

I have not looked at the other one.

Grow up "anothercoopperson" - the duff site looks perfectly legit, its not mine, but sorry you don't like the domain name lol - And I don't see the problem with the download site either, if the law hasn't shut them down then who are we to say they are illegal, call your DEA or something and stop whining here.

Sorry you get offended easily, welcome to the internet, its not illegal and its not porn, use the system or not, its your choice.

Oh great - so what happens when the illegal software rip off site gets banned and has links pointing into reputable sites, or worse yet we have links pointing into it - won't that have some effect on how our sites are viewed... from a search engine stand point I mean...(legitimate question - not a statement)

I am setting up the coop ads on my system as we speak, but I have no desire to be seen as a supporter of illegal download sites, if that is what I can expect to show up in my ads, then count me out.

I am going to look for a breakdown list of what officially IS and what IS NOT allowed in the coop - before I make any more changes to my site.:(

Who told you it was not legal, is www.download.com also a bad site?

Prove that it is not legal before making judgments

    Wendy -
    Thanks ;)

    Anthony -
I guess I see downloading and sharing copyrighted materials as 'illegal' when perhaps its just an issue of 'ethics perception'. my bad. :(

Is there a lot of that on the coop..?Sorta 'devalues' the whole concept - still I guess I'll have to give it a try and see how it goes - most people seem to be happy with it - I don't want to be one of 'those guys' that balk at every little thing ;)

If you have a problem with a site Shawn wants you to report it for additional review, there is nothing wrong with posting anytime you think there may be a problem, that is what the forum is for

You can see that the members are willing to put in their time and give you an opinion and that is why you guys ask the questions.

Keep asking if you have more questions or problems

Well, I guess the coop network is just not grown-up enough for primetime then. I run a multimillion dollar online game store and will not jeopardize the reputation of my business by inadvertently linking to questionable websites.

JuicyDuff is definitely not a family friendly name, though the website is not pornographic.

Downloadz.ws IS illegal. If somehow you can justify having access to 90,000,000 movies for 89 cents a month, you should work for the ACLU or something. That is clearly illegal, at least in the USA. But they don't operate in the USA. They just steal content like games and movies made in the USA and pimp it out to be downloaded from Russia.

Those are just a few I noticed.

The coop seems to be working nicely for people with directories, or people who maintain anonymity and sell advertisements, etc. But until it has more controls in place - more categories, more editorial power - it just isn't ready for some sites. Like I said earlier, I would pay $20, maybe $100 a month to have a premium service. That would be nickels compared to our $10k a month adwords budget.

I went back and clicked on about 30 of the random ads that showed on MY particular page. Roughly 75% of them were just fluff sites serving adsense. A few were not in English. There were only 2 that were at least semi-legitimate stores that sold products.

Go ahead and flame me for being a prude, or an idiot, or whatever you want. I enjoy the responses. And I will use coop - on an adsense web ring I am working on.

No one is flamming you. It sounds like the co-op, in its current form, isn't for your ecommerce site. That doesn't make you, or the co-op bad, it just makes it the way it is for now.

Eventually it will be categorized and you will be able to choose languages, and then it will probably be better suited to your needs.

I hope you find it works well for your alternate website

Oh, and sorry TiGG. I apologize for just whining and complaining because I like to hear myself type. My comments had absolutely NOTHING to do with trying to understand or improve the system. I should just be like you and accept everything as is. I guess Shawn doesn't want illegal websites reported here. And people who use coop don't mind if they are linking to "bad neighborhood" sites. Its the Internet, we should just deal with it. And of course if the website exists, it must be perfectly legal! You are brilliant! Do you have a daily e-newsletter or something I can subscribe to?

You still have not provided the URL of your site so we can see the quality of your site, why not

If what you say about the download site is true, you can be sure that Shawn will consider your opinion, can you wait for an answer or do you demand everything be changed in one day

There is nothing wrong with the Hillary Duff site, but if you continue to see issues with the other sites I am sure that members and Shawn will look into it.

So you want to have outbound links to viagra/casino/affiliate sites that haven't been shut down yet TiGG? Your argument doesn't hold water. Google could decide to ban illegal download sites any day now. They already disallowed casino/pharmie sites from adwords.

I also happen to think the URL "juicyduff" is a bit inappropriate for a fan site of a 16 year old girl.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed in the coop, I don't make those decisions. But if someone emailed me with a link exchange request for "juicyduff.com", or the downloadz site, I would put it in my spam folder in .00005 seconds.
