I am thinking of starting Fileuploading site, how is it in the web world?

I will be getting a fast dedicated server with unmetered bandwidth, and good hard drive space.

I will only be using it for 1 site which will be for fileuploading.

max file size will be 300mb (Upload) or can be down to 100mb, will decide later.

I will try to give users the maximum speeds and willing to get more dedicated servers if the site really grows.

What is the chances that i can make good money in return for starting a successful Filehosting site?

    Share some suggestions.

    Thanks

hmm - my site used to provide a giant list of filehosting sites - there are well over 1000 of them - and at least 30+ run properly for profit. I personally can't see how there can be money in it. Yes - rapidshare and filefront are probably profitable - but they seem to be subscription based. I suspect it would be very difficult to have subscription service entering the market as a new contender. SO... it would need to be advertising supported - but to do that you'll need decent traffic to pull back the costs - previously this was achieved by sites requiring a number of pages be viewed before download - but many of the newer companies require fewer pages be viewed - reducing income.

The truthful bottomline, however, is that you'll need to allow/promote illegal piracy to make your site a success. That is how the big ones generated all their initial traffic (and probably the majority of their current traffic). There are a number of notable forums online with links to millions of illegal files hosted on such sites - your site becomes big on them, it would probably become succesful in general!

    give to users
    - big size
    - minimum time to wait for download
    - build a affiliate system ( ex: 1000 download = 1 $ °
    - allow all files extention ( no php an html )

Well i can probably make it active by spreading the words/links through out the net.

I will be purchasing a dedicated server for $150 and a script, and i want to atleast make $50+ the first month.

    What ya think?

FileFactory.com was just being sold for $3-15 million, and I see a number of smaller sites like that for sale for $5k or so.

So there's definitely money there, you'll just need to do some heavy marketing to "break in" to the file upload space.
