    depends on many variables.

Right now with my directory, im working on having no ad's what so ever. Im boosting up my pagerank, traffic and backlinks to get a reputation to be able to charge per link and prime landscape advertising.

because i would rather have a great reputaion with good traffic and paid submissions rather then praying for a few clicks every now and then through random passers by.

my next project my focus on adsense. who knows.

but going into will it help..it would depend on many factors like the layout, if its intrusive or passive, if it will decredit your directory etc.

just a few things to think about.

timallard I was speaking of putting Google ads in the largest directory that I am going to create

If I share a revenue model like digitalpoint will it help in bringing editors

I doubt it would - from what I've read, Adsense on directories perform poorly.

I used G ads for a long time on LMN Directory and I can tell you that they do not do well. I've found that selling your own text links, banner links, and RSS text links is the best way to monetize your efforts along side your directory.

To maintain the credibility and integrity of a directory keep as far away as possible G ads on your directory only the very well established directories would be able to maintain credibility while at the same time displaying G ads

And to get to that level will take you 1,000's of dollars and thousands of hours

Rule 1 secure the integrity of the directory first before you think about 3rd party add ons

I have all plans ready and I even finished categories to some extent

Since I am planning to start a Dmoz like Directory

There should be some form of revenue to the editors

Thats why I am thinking of Google ads

I think Small google ad at the bottom will do the trick

All depends what you want to achieve. Small ads at the bottom of the page won't achieve a very high ctr so low revenue, whereas well integrated at the top of the directory structure will achieve a high ctr but will undermine the directory. I think free featured link on high pr page is a better editor incentive, if you link the number of links to amount of 'editing' done etc and find a way to make it fair. I think there's afew people who would be editors for a few one way links from pages high up in the structure if you can get a decent pr

One thing you could do is this:

Form joint ventures with reliable submission services and offer your premium links at a discount to them. Example: Your premium links may cost $12.00 . You could offer the submission service you have the JV with premium links at say $9.00 this way you would have a constant flow of possible paid submissions and the service will pocket the difference.

I do this with a couple of such submission services and with good result. How you accomplish this with the service will depend greatly on how your directory payments work.

I think it is a really good idea that means the submission service will sell the link to owners at $12 Am I right

Yes, that is the theory. No extra admin and no out of pocket expense to either party concerned. Be sure you check out the service completely though before you enter into any agreements. In other words, know who you are working with. ;)
