for hiring 'gameOn' to install a phpBB3 board for me with mod addons and some themes.
Paid of course right away, as I always do -
plus did not have login access to the board before I paid.
Then I find out, that he simply hit the auto-install on my host [who provides several auto-installs] - which are total generic installs of course.
I could have done this myself if thats what I wanted.
I paid him more then most others charge.

Never mind the money really - I feel betrayed - on top of it I gave him a positive i-point he immediatly asked for the moment he received payment.

I was STUPID because I generated a temp server login for him to make his life easier [not just ftp info] - and - boy did I make his life easy.

Well, I wound up hiring another member, who hardly got any jobs in here - yet he has been working with me since 1 week now, and I could not be more pleased with "sicario" - needless to say after he installed a new board with everything I asked for, I hired him for more and consider giving him work whenever I need something done.

I just wanted it be known that gameOn definitely is taking all the shortcuts he get's away with obvioucly. :(

    ......................................

well, well, gameOn just pm'd me and offered a refund.

so, I guess - he at least tried to make amends. Still - it's not about the money! It's about HONESTY.

Why should he offer you a refund? You paid for it to be installed and he got it installed...

What does it matter if he clicked one button or not?

I'm just missing the point as to why he offered you a refund. From what I'm understanding his services were completed. Awkward thread, IMO. Looks like you were just pissed after finding out how easy it could have been to get it installed.

means: a generic auto install with no addon mods or theme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is not what I paid for - I paid for some mods I needed and themes. That was clearly understood.

And to close this matter, he offered and did refund the money Today.
    end of story.

it's upfront honesty that matters!!!! You may disagree with me on this point that is your view.

Just good you would not want to do any work for me.

It is really good though that he shared his honesty. Not too many do that.

My Dear - am around since 1993, install scripts since years [including typo3 ones].
Just did not have the time to do a custom install for a phpBB3 board for a customer, so I hired someone from here to do it quickly -
and yes, I was pissed off because he knew exactly that he only did an auto-install versus what I had asked and paid for.

I am not that stupid - if I get a server email that the auto install is completed, I was not so worried then - but after there was nothing else [mods and themes] I took the time and looked - sure enough, there was nothing else but the default.

As I said before - it is not the money - it was the time loss and yes honesty still counts with me. That is why 99.9% of my employees are happy since 1993.
And appreciate a straight forward approach in ALL matters.

No, I don't care if it's only one button - all the better for my time frames -
If that's what it would take, I could install at least 45 scripts at the same time on the server and never touch anything there after.
You totally missed my point - or maybe I did not explain it all too well - short of posting the original pm's, which I will not do for privacy and security reasons.

    The matter is now closed.

I agree. Some people don't even know how to install wordpress, even with use of fantastico.

You got what you paid for. People might perceive him as some sort of scammer now, even though he did a good job.

How much did you pay him anyway? Unless it was more than $25, don't worry about it.

Well, on the plus side you did get a refund, so that's a good start. You say that it was clearly understood that you were needing some mods and themes installed, but maybe it was just a miscommunication. It happens from time to time that what one person thinks is clearly understood, the other person doesn't have a clue. Be thankful everything worked out in the end.
