OK so I am currently running with wordpress on GoDaddy at the moment and I have to say it is easy to use in regards to design and such but that is after you can finally navigate through the pages of "buy this" and "buy that!!" SERIOUSLY!! Give me an easier option as a server and design platform!! I know there are a lot out there but I yearn for some EDUCATED thoughts! (A bunch of people tell me to google it...)
You can go for html themes on themeforest, it is easy to edit too. You can download dreamweaver to edit the content of website and upload it on the server.
may be it come from go daddy server platform,,it is disturbing ,,but some decent hosts not do that i think,,, but once you upgrade it will not show up again and can ask host not to send any promotions may be can do change privacy settings..
Yea I thought about that. i just hate the idea of "hey wanna pay more for a service you are already paying for and get these extra add ons that you will never use!" Thanks for the input though! Love the feed back!
You get what you pay for; or less... never more! godaddy in one of a number of entry level hosting services that service primarily low end site sites built by novices. Wordpress is primarily used to build sites that no one but the builder actually cares about, and the majority are novice attempts.
Bam! I've just been schooled! Thanks for the info. And yea what would you suggest? COBOLdinosaur I like your style mate!
Don't ever use godaddy for hosting.. first mistake 2nd.. Wordpress is a great platform, and there are some very professional sites built on wordpress. This is false and ignorant..
For several years I have been using asmallorange.com for shared hosting. They are not the least expensive but they deal with the most important thing well. Support! They have never taken more than 10 minutes to respond to a ticket, and they have never played the "its not our problem" game. They find a solution; even when it is my own stupidity that causes an issue. I prefer not to make recommendations on hosting but what I do suggest is that you perhaps use that as a benchmark and then compare the cost and features with other hosting services to find the right fit for what you need in terms of resources, flexibility, features. There is no host that is the right one for every site, and you may need to educate yourself to understand the different packages that are being offered. HINT: Claims of unlimited bandwidth or unlimited storage are flat out lies, and a host who starts out with that kind of false advertising is not trustworthy enough to consider as a supplier of hosting services. I did not use the word ALL in my description. In the hands of a skilled professional wordpress (or anything else) can be used to produce great sites. However most Wordpress sites have been developed by wannabes, novices, and quick-buck scammers and have little more value than the trash floating around in the ocean. It is not easy to use well, but it has been marketed as an "anybody can do a great site" tool much the same a Godaddy markets to non-professionals.
You went for cheap stuff because the company name is big, this is the biggest mistake all novice do. Even now, I try to avoid godaddy for domain names and went for namecheap, as for hosting, webhostingtalk would be your best choice to find a good hosting company, this is a place dedicated to web hosting, all kind of prices and all kind of services and you will find out that you can find some very cool unknown web hosting company who are giving out great services and support. Now dealing with wordpress, doesn't mean you can build anything for free, some features found on some wordpress sites are custom built or paid plugins, however, nowadays, wordpress.org has seen some great free plugins to create astonishing blogs for free. Don't be afraid to ask around, here or somewhere else what you wan to do with your blog, the worpress community is HUGE and you will find many people willing to give you free advices on how to set your blog as you like, as long as you don't ask for specific stuff that requires coding, then you either make them yourself and thus learn to code or pay for these services. Fancy something else? try Dupral or Joomla, you will find out that they not as easy as wordpress and those communities are not as big as wordpress also unlike what as been said above, going for a template might not be as easy as it seems, based on what you will get, coding experience is needed. I'd rather not say go for that hosting compney or that one since, one can fit someone but not everyone, best bet would be to go on WHT, tell there what you need to do and you ll get the best answers from hosting companies themselves
Of course they can create a great website. I encourage them to do so; but using third party code is not building a website, any more than a paint-by-numbers portrait is an art masterpiece. If you can only work through three or four layers of abstraction, then you have no clue how anything actually works which means you can never move outside the box and innovate because you can only work while chained up in a cage built on dependence on others to do the thinking for you.
Yeah I hate Godaddy, the only time I ever used it when was they had a $1 .com for new people. As far as domains go, I've used namecheap.com for nearly 10 years and never had any issues, it simple. As far as hosting, I'd say switch to a VPS. It's a step up from shared, and it will take a little while to learn, but it's totally worth it! The things are so cheap now, you can get one from digitalocean.com for $5 a month. I've used Linode.com for the past year, they're pretty good and start at $10 bucks a month. I'f you want to stick to shared hosting with cpanel and stuff I'm not sure anymore. I used thiswebhost.com for a couple years but towards the end I wasn't to happy with the service. I remember asmallorange from back in the day, I'm sure they're fine if COBO says so, they've been around for quite a while. I'd just try to avoid the gigantic companies like godaddy or hostgator or whatever. As far as an actual platform and CMS that's up to you. There's a million other options besides Wordpress. I used WordPress for several years and switched to Rails, I like it a lot better.
LOL... Godaddy is so desperate that they need to send spin doctors out to forums offering nothing but the same old nonsense and promises of improvements as solid as .... uhm ... smoke which goes well with mirrors which are the two tools they have been using for years to entice the gullible. The bottom line is that for low-end shared hosting you feature unlimited bandwidth and storage. That is a lie! You know you are lying! You keep doing it to attract non-techies who will not understand how much you limit them!
Sorry you feel that way, but can assure you it is no lie. We have a new pro.godaddy.com site aimed for web professional who also manage client accounts. It's invite only right now, you can request one if you like. Will be open for public all soon. Also we have been updating our hosting services, including Cpanel shared hosting and Managed WordPress hosting offerings now as two examples. Kindly, Colby
Ok good feed back! Thanks Heaps! As all can see I am probably not your genuine talk n walk programmer nor could I ever claim that to be. However I thought it would be a good skill to learn, HTML etc, so I went with Godaddy as it was one of the cheaper options I found on google. Really appreciate the feed back! Keep it coming as I am taking notes. Thank you Colby for joining in with he conversation. WOuld live to hear more of your thoughts on this.
I godaddy was selling cars they would sell you an f-150 with a lawnmower engine and then offer an upgrade to a real engine after they got your money; at which point they would also point out that it would be easier to drive if you added wheels and tires. Cd&
in my experience with couple of client site, godaddy shared hosting isnt the best to use but it is pretty decent if you just want to use wordpress with small sets of plugins and light weight theme. As of wordpress, it is a piece of junk if you can read code, but it is by far the easiest to use for novice user. If you are not savvy with coding and web site building techniques, it is way cheaper to hire professional to build it for you.
I have not read the whole thread but i use wordpress and i find it the easiest and tons of plugins and themes. But it seems wp is not the problem. Anyways from i read you only need a better server.. for shared server I suggest using crocweb, stablehost or hawkhosting. They are one of the few reliable shared hosting. But if you really want something better go with vps, you have to manaully code it though, you can hire someone to set it up for around $50 per server. For vps go with digitalocean or fapvps. I have used them wih no problem. Make sure to know your setup also before hiring as they will use it against you. I can recommend someone as i was scam here before.. you can find my post about my complain.
