I am Seriously Confused

What is exactly is the definition of a backlink? Because I've been trying to make as many backlinks as I can for my site http://knownhealthsolutions.com/
yet it shows I have no backlinks. I've posted at high PR health forums related to my niche, but yet no back links. I've also submitted my site to over 100 directories, and nothing! It is simply that Google takes a while to register a back link, or is that my whole definition of a backlink is wrong. For example, would a post like this with my link it could as a back link?

    Please help!

(Oh yeah, I've also submitted to atleast 30 article directories a high quality article with my link in it)

Google is very shy about thsowing all the backlinks they find.

I have some sites, who google says I have 88 backlinks, when I serach for link:domain.com . However, once I verified ny site in Google Webmaste tools, it says I have 5000 links pointing to domain.com

You can always look in yahoo, as they tend to show almost all backlinks.

I'm at school right now so I can't see that article, but I was reading a bunch of articles similar to that and I still understand. My point is, even if I had been posting my link incorrectly to count as a back link (I posted it like http://xxxxxxxx.com), I know that my tons of directory and article submissions should show atleast ONE backlink right? On yahoo I only have two! I'm panicing right now.

Oh god, I've been linking my branched pages instead of my main domain, does that not count as a backlink? For example: xxxxxx.com/xxxx.htm

It would count as a backlink still,, but it wouldn't be nearly as valuable if you don't target it to your homepage. These backlinks will still show but you have to search on the exact page where you directed them too.. it sounds like you've been directing all your links to your sub=pages and been searching how many backlinks you built to your HOMEPAGE (maybe that's it?)

Going forward you should direct the majority of your links to your homepage since you want that homepage to rank high in Google.

You can check your backlinks in Yahoo. I see something like 4 backlinks right now :)

Google only counts a small percentage of your backlinks, if you continue to
build backlinks your backlinks will eventually show up in google.

Using google, make sure you have a space between link: and yourwebsite.com
    EX:
    link: yourwebsite.com

For yahoo, use the following querry format

    linkdomain:yourwebsite.com -site:yourwebsite.com

    www.buy-cheap-viagra-online-while-consolidating-your-debt-so-you-can-play-texas-holdem-while-watching-porn.com

See forums links need to be there as your back links, you will find next back link update this DP back links,

Well other forums you are submitting may be nofollow,

and just 100 directories, how could you expect back links, submit you website in thousands of directories, than you will have few good back links from directories,

Articles back links does not have much more values, as it good for getting traffic.

You need to make high pr back links, through blog comment posting and doing reci. link exchange with relevant websites.

Still all those links, you are not getting in Google, you will find in Google webmaster tools.

Google only lists a small portion of your real backlinks. To see all that they have detected use the Google webmaster tools.

Many forums and blogs append the "nofollow" attribute to user submitted links to prevent spammers from using their sites as link-farms.

Just keep building links and encouraging friends and family who have blogs and sites to link to you as well and you'll get where you need to be.

You should choose that types of directories which have not more than 5 to 10 links for quick approval you can use our Seo friendly directories list to submit your links or you can also purchase any professional service to make manual submission.

Article submission generally way of quality traffics because i saw till now that most of article directories will use nofollow tag with your signature links and it will take time also for approval.

So for quick listing you should use social bookmarking sites and manual directories submission service for quick response within one or two week.

You can know more about directories behaviors and how to choose seo friendly directories? for quick approval at my first site of signature.:)

    Thanks.
