I Dream of Jeannie – one of my all-time favorite sitcoms. Though it was aired from 1965 to 1970 in USA, it's dubbed version in Hindi was broadcast again in India on Sony Entertainment Television during the late 90s. Not sure about the exact year though. I was just a schoolboy then. I guess I haven't missed a single episode.

Doom II: Hell on Earth – one of my favorite (MS)DOS-based FPS games released by Id Software in 1994. I still love to play it.:) Haven't completed the Nightmare difficulty level yet and sadly, cheat-codes don't work with it.:(

Okay, first I have to admit that I am older than dirt. :)

In the mid-1980's, I was selling engineering/scientific software which worked on mainframes and minicomputers. Visiting a client to do a demo was a nightmare. You either had to get access to one of their machines, install the demo software just before the demo, etc., or you could bring your own monitor with modem and try to connect over a phone line to the mainframe or minicomputer back at headquarters. Imagine doing demos in which you have to constantly fill the silence in the air as the screen refreshed over a 28K telephone modem.

So, when Apollo Computers and Sun Microsystems came out with Unix workstations, you could actually ship a demo platform to the customer and then wheel it in on a two-wheel truck and do a demo! It was fantastic:

But shortly after that, the PC revolution began and Compaq came out with the software salesman's dream:

It was the famous "suitcase" PC which could be carried on a plane and then hand carried to the customer's site. The screen was too small to do the demo, but customers would gladly share a monitor for the demo. We did not think that it could get any better than this! LOL.

    No sarcasm, just truth. :)

As bad as it may be getting old, it beats the alternative. ;)

    Hahahahaha...

If you all knew all the things we shared here then it means we are almost have the same ages (probably... Hehehehehe).

It was fun to know there are several people coming from (almost) the same generations.

    The untold reunions.

I was 21 and had a semi truck. After the movie "Smoky and the bandit" I went and bought the car also. Tip: If your t-roofs start leaking when it rains, clean and give the rubber weather stripping a shot of silicone spray. Problem fixed.

    80s Hair Metal

    LOL!

Neon Colors everywhere, TMNT, Thunder Cats, Alf, the Original Nintendo, recording your favorite songs off the radio onto a casette tape, and good old TGIF. I used to watch all of those shows with my family every Friday.

Terrible movies, awful fashion styles, enormous eyeglasses...

It's what I think of as the awkward years. Kind of naiive too.

I am from that generation myself too, by the way.

I just received this list in my email inbox and thought that it would be relevant to this discussion:

You are a Child of the 80's If...

*You know what a "burnout" is.

    *You owned/operated a 'Trapper Keeper'

    *You know what "Psych" means.

*Once, while spending hours in the arcade, you actually lined up
quarters on the top panel of the game-to "reserve" your spot.

*You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off".

*You know that another name for a keyboard is a "Synthesizer".

*You can name at least half of the members of the elite "Brat Pack".

*You know who Tina Yothers is.

*You wanted to be a Goonie.

*You felt ashamed when Rob Lowe got in trouble for sex with minors and
videotaping it, because you liked him.

*You had top-of-the-line Commodore 64s in your jr. high computer lab

*You know who Max Headroom is.

*You ever wore fluorescent, neon if you will, clothing.

*You could break dance, or wish you could.

*You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween.

*Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away.

*You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye.

*You can, right now, hum to yourself the theme to 'Inspector Gadget'

*You wanted to be on Star Search.

*You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose
    fell off.

*You wore a banana clip at some point during your youth, or knew
    someone who did.

*You owned a doll with 'Xavier Roberts' signed on its butt, or knew
    someone who did.

*You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout".

*You HAD to have your MTV

*You remember when Kramer was on a show called 'Friday's'

*You hold a special place in your heart for "Back to the Future".

*You know where to go if you "wanna go where everybody knows your
    name".

*You thought Molly Ringwald was REALLY cool.

*You actually thought "Dirty Dancing" was a REALLY good movie.

*You heard of Garbage Pail Kids.

*You knew "The Artist" when he was humbly called "Prince".

*You actually saw Ted Danson as the MacDaddy he played "Sam" to be.

*You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game system.

    *You own(ed) any 'cassette singles'

*You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living on
    the moon.

*You remember And/or own any of the Care Bear Glass collection from
Pizza Hut. Or any other stupid collection they came out with.

    *Poltergeist freaked you out.

*You carried you lunch to school in a Gremlins or an ET lunchbox.

*You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf.

*You know what a Doozer is.

*You wore bike shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish, or
    knew someone who did.

*You ever had a Swatch Watch.

*You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.

*You had Wonder Woman or Superman underoos.

*You know what a "Whammee" is.

If you can identify with at least half of this list then you, my
friend, are a "Child of the 80's".
