I am not getting pagerank?

Discussion in 'SEO' started by hitboy, May 26, 2008.

It's been about 3 page rank updates since my directory has been open on one of the sites i own. The rest of the site has pr on various pages. Yet the directory seems like it wont be updated.

I am getting worried that the pagerank is not being updated because I am selling featured links.. Is this a possible reason?

The directory also has thousands of active links and has thousands of backlinks to the main page.

    Has google docked me?

Google has hit the majority of directories - especially the ones that sell links and do not use "nofollow" tags. A directory with its PR manually removed is very common these days. In googles eyes, 99% of directories do not provide any original or useful content.

Hmm I understand so if I dont sell links it will be ok? Can I still not use the nofollow tags?

Also if google did this to my site manually am I able to get pagerank later if I make the proper changes?

Google just doesn't like all but a few (like yahoo, DMOZ) directories these days, especially general directories. You could try removing anything related to paid submissions, or requiring a reciprocal link, etc., and then file a reinclusion request via webmaster tools - but I would guess they won't restore the PR, especially if you keep it a do follow link directory. They even removed PR on a lot of the categories for botw.org - one of the oldest directories around.

It is true that Google doesn't allow to sell dofollow links. If you do so, Google may really ban your site and will not assign any PR to you.

    Really satisfied with your thoughts

Google is really strict with Dirs and have been penalizing lots of dirs these days for selling links

You sign up for google webmaster tools. From there you file a reinclusion request. That's the only way to do it.

digg put nofollow tags and inclusion in digg will only drive traffic. has almost no direct impact on seo.

IMO, Google is behaving differently with the directories for selling links,

Directories may have fetured links on it, may be other factor is working after it.
