I am Looking To Advertise Local Businesses Websites. Obviously this is a little harder then global websites as visitors need to be targeted from certain regions. ANy tips out there for advertising local business websites on the internet? Money is no object so even if its expensive Id be interested to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

Use Adwords with location/geographic area targeting. It works great for local businesses and is, in most cases, very cost effective.

    Great idea, any other tips?

In addition do most people actually choose the general region like NY, NY on adwords or does typing in the actual cities work well?

Could not tell you what most people do...I'm only one person:)

I tend to use the "Customized - Your ads will appear for searches made within a specific distance from your business or other location you choose. " option when establishing targeting for local businesses.

The business I'm thinking of requires that people actually come pick something up, so I try to keep driving/travel distance and time in mind.

A little of both. (more often than not I specify the city)

Sorry for such specific questions: Is it good at picking up visitors from individual cities? Thanks for all of your help I really do appreciate it.

Seems to work well - I've done some testing, i.e. calling a few friends in the target area and asking if they see the ads.

You could try a couple various things: AdWords (as described above), submitting yourself to Google Maps, submitting an RSS/XML Feed to Froogle (Google), getting yourself on any other CPC networks, and also try to do some high-density keywords for your local area to rank higher on search engines. Those are just a few of the things you could do to rank higher and attract more business.
