I am looking for a theme for my home page in WP that looks like a webpage not a blog, is this possible, I want it to be dynamic as i would like to add content, and then make it to be static. is this possible?
I don't really understand all these contradictions... you want to use a blogging engine, and make it not look like a blog, then you want to dynamically add content and make it static... None of this makes sense. Is there a better way that you could explain exactly what you're trying to do?
Gopher - I use wp on my husband's site and its not obviously wp. In fact you have to hunt quite hard to find the posts as all the content is in pages. I have another site that mostly uses posts but the homepage and a significant number of other pages on the site use wp pages. WordPress is growing up and becoming a light cms that can be used more broadly. As for finding the theme, you might be better to find one that most of what you want and then modify it. Themes are easy to work with.
WordPress is becoming the next "so easy a caveman can do it" Content system. I doubt anyone would purchase a website that is powered by wordpress because anyone can make their own website exactly like theirs by getting the same theme and using the same plugins.... By the way nothing is copyright under the wordpress admin screen.... I would start by creating everything custom and by your own hand. If you do sell your site in the future the buyer will pay alot more. I doubt a wordpress website will be work crap in the future...
Aaah, but who says he wants to sell it? And you can get custom plugins. The first site I mentioned has a plugin that uses local data that we are buy and graph. But mostly, when you buy a site you are paying for the intellectual property and the time that has already been spent in building and marketing the site. Its not always about the copy-ability.
sarahk nobody said he wants to sell it but before he dies I know he will want to sell it.... Most custom plugins for wordpress that I have seen are very easy to make as of today IMHO. There is no real worth unless you like penny ad space and traffic for a wordpress site. If thats ok to this person then so be it.
I know the point you are trying to make but there are also sites on blogger that have huge value because of who is in charge. dcjbluesky is a new member and for all we know s/he may have a huge offline following just waiting for hm/her to create an online presence.
I guess, he doesn't want the default look & feel of 2 column theme. btw OP, it's very much possible whatever you may have in your mind.
You can find plenty of this kind of themes on www.themeforest.net and similar pages they cost from $15 to $45 but they really professional. Just search in google "wp premium themes"
