I Am In Charge of Getting the Word out About a New Website, Best Way?

As the title suggests, I was recently given the task to I suppose online market this new website. The thing is it doesn't have to be targeted traffic, so Ezine doesn't make a whole lot of sense, besides it's an unusual topic so I don't know that it'd work within Ezine anyways.

So does anyone have any free guides or advice on that sort of marketing (viral, just getting lots of people to see it without getting in trouble or sandboxing or anything)?

If the traffic can be any kind at all you could use a traffic exchange, but seriously the traffic from those places is rubbish.

The best way to get traffic to a new site is to do some social bookmarking (only bookmarking really useful stuff) and get some press release out so that bloggers can start talking about your website.

If you can find forums for your niche, participate in them and use the site in signature (don't care about them being dofollow).

You should start working on good content and SEO so that you can start getting organic traffic.
