I am having speed problems with my wordpresss site and need help

I own the site borisdimitrijevic.com a free article directory based wordpress site and it has been very slow recently. I have a VPS server from hostgator and all of the other sites on my server are working very fast. Even the wp backend like adding and editing posts is working real slow on this site. Is there anyway I could make my site faster? by use of plugins or any other way?

All help would be much appreciated!

You better ask about this problem. And you can try advanced methods like Gzip compression or refer this tutorial for wordpress page speed

Ask you host first. See if they can recommend a Cache plug in.
How many plug ins are you running?

I have asked hostgator several times and they have not done anything to ramp up the speed. I do have a chaching plugin (wp3 total cache or something like that) also. Some other sites running on the same server are; masselitebasketball.com, zgcheerleading.com, and webpresto.com. So my server as a whole is not bad it is just that one website.

Again, How many plug ins are you running on that site?
    What are they?

And by the way, Hostgator isn't going to do anything to "ramp up the speed". Hosting companies don't do that. According to them, if things are running slow, it's all your fault. the first thing they will blame is your plug ins..even if you have none running. The next thing they will blame is your computer, your ISP, your modem and everything under the sun to make their slow speeds, your fault.

Seems like a lot, but I couldn't tell you if one specific one was causing the slowness.
You can do that by deactivating them and reactivating them one by one and testing your site with each activation.

I looked at it, and I didn't see any speed problems. Just a bunch of ads. If the ad servers are slow, then your site will load slow. Same with pulling RSS feeds. You are at the mercey of what ever scripts you are running that are coming from another source.

I didn't say it was any plug ins, I said that it may be all of the ads that you are pulling. If where they come from is running slow, it's going to affect how slow your website loads.
Whatever you are pulling from somewhere else, will affect your speed.

i dont think that google adsense, hostgator ads, and text link ads, infolinks have slow servers they are some of the most reputable affiliate and ad programs out there. Thanks for the help anyways.

If you are so sure what it isn't, then it shouldn't take you long to figure out what it is.

Yeah, dude. I'm trying to help and you keep telling me that I'm wrong.

Plain and simple, you are pulling a lot of things from multiple sources. They all have to be running at 100% all of the time for you to NEVER experience any drag.
That is just unrealistic I don't care how reputable they are.
That is a lot of ads to load. VPS is not a dedicated server. It's still shared hosting.

Like I said, I don't see an issue. It loads just fine for me. But when I go to the article pages, there is a lag and it's the Hostgator banner ad, the 2 Netflix banner ads, The Kayak script/add, the adsense, the 2 banner ads at the bottom of the page, and the text link ads. That's the stuff that is slowing the load.

Individuality, they may run faster than an Italian Captain abandons ship. Together, it takes a minute.
I'm just telling you what is taking the longest to load.

It isn't the theme, or the content..it's the ads.

And it's still really not that bad. At least not on my end. Maybe adjust the settings on your cache plug in to load scripts fast. Ask Hostgator for the best settings they can help with that.
