So I sold a car on ebay and the person paid through paypal. He picked up the car a few days later. He claims the car was having problems from the first day he had it.. What I dont understand is why he did not contact me, as he had my phone number and email. He emails me over 2 weeks later telling me the car is having engine problems etc. I however never experienced these problems. He opened a paypal dispute saying the repairs will cost $3000. Now I find this unacceptable. I am not a dealership, mechanic, or someone trying to scam a car buyer. I do not feel I should have to refund anything, yet this is a totally different conversation. Currently all the money that he sent me is sitting in my bank account (Not my Paypal account) However when I had an issue with a seller on DP when he strait up scammed me I won the dispute yet I was not refunded any money. So even if I lose the dispute and I have no money in my paypal account what will happen?
Paypal will probably close your Paypal account and send you a bill or something like that if they do end up sending you a bill a lawsuit will need to be filed.
Just let the PayPal investigate it. When they ask for your details, just let them know, that you have no concern, with what happens to the car after payment!
Paypal may charge you on your Credit card, Once I Accidentally made the purchase of 30$, my paypal account was empty, they charge the money on the CC. Same may happen with you. in case you lose and paypal decides to refund the buyer.
well currently the money is in my bank account so I am not sure how they would be able to do that as they have no right. I can report it as an unauthorized transaction
buddy, i don think they'll take money out of your bank and pay that buyer.thats because your bank should not allow it . Also i faced a similar case... when i was scammed and the scammer had only a fraction in his paypal that was returned. And what i would suggest is to let paypal do the investigations and you provide your side of the statement when asked for !! this should work fine
i think paypal will contact you first but not close your account. but your account balance may go to negetive value.. and i dont know what paypal will do if you keep it negetive.. so i think you should read there TOS or policy because if you keep it neg for long time, then they might sue you to court.. so i will suggest you to call paypal and tell that your car is already taken by him and he did agree that the car was in good condition at when he tested. but if he did something now and trying to get more from you, then its not your problem because you already give him the car and did the paper work etc. and i believe you will win the dispute then... i will suggest never do this kind of business on PayPal. always ask them to pay you by Xoom using there paypal because at Xoom, even if they pay you using there paypal, they cannot setup a dispute. xoom is really nice service where scammers cant scam you and yet you they can pay you by there paypal...
PayPal will not close your account or anything. If you LOSE the claim your balance will go into negatives. As far as I can see if you truly are honest and you account goes into negatives, you should stick it to them and not pay anything. If you do go into negatives of $3000 since it is a massive ammount PayPal will send out letters etc. to your registered address and eventually a debt collector. But as I said you shouldn't pay anything and if they keep pushing take them to court or whatever. But as long as you have some sort of proof or something to make PayPal believe you about your situation you should win the claim. Good luck man.
first of all if you have a credit card in your paypal account than remove it if possible or cancel yur credit card from the issuing authority. paypal would not be able to take funds from your bank account but it can definitely do that from your credit card as it has all the details. so better you cancel your credit card after you cancel your cc there will no liabilities from the credit card issuing bank. whatever will be the resolution from paypal you should take this steps immediately for prevention
