I am happy as a clam in mud! Got the new computer in earlier. Spent some time moving the old one out of the way and setting up the new one. And it looks great! Had a bit of a problem setting up the internet connection, but got it sorted out. Now I am ready to rock! Of course, not today, but tomorrow, will have to see about what I need to get from old computer to add to new computer (emails, etc etc).
Nice work there iowadawg. It seems everyone is having trouble setting up the internet connections on there new computer.
For some reason, it first would not show the new hardware (the dsl modem), To tech support had me go through a bunch of hoops...nothing worked. Went to phone company (gotta love local phone companies that are 2 blocks away!) and got new cd. That did not work. So back to tech support...no help again. So phone company was going to send a man over in the morning to check the modem and see if he could get me running. Then....God does love me! I again hooked up the modem to the usb port, and poof! Came up, put in cd, and all is right with the world. Since this is a dell, dude...have a lot of excess programs on it! AOL??? Geesh, give me a break. So will be removing all that stuff. And gotta love a 19" lcd monitor!
Nice one iowadawg.I've got one of those external usb2 hard drives. They make life sooooo much easier for transferring files. Why don't you stay with AOL? ROFLMAO
Way back in the mists of time, when aol first came on the scene, I signed up with them. After about 6 months, a new isp opened up in our area, so I dumped aol. And aint never looked back, aint never had the nasty thought of going back to aol, tell people if you get aol "you are fruitier than froot loops cereal" Well, one day, may take a picture and post it somewhere. Oh, yeah right....my image hosting site! LOL Going to buy a smart machine or whatever they are called.
If you used the *USB Connection* on the DSL Modem it should show up... If you just plugged the *Ethernet Cable* from the modem to the computer it will not show up as a Device, so you usually need to install the Software you get from your ISP to get it working... If your gonna keep the *Old Computer* you might consider using it for the BOINC project... They have alot of various projects that you can use your computer for to help analyse data for SETI@Home, Folding@Home and others.. BOINC SETI@Home I've been running Seti@home for 6-years...
Once I have a few things done, plus get a new smart machine (or whatever they are called), the old computer will become my wife's. She is heavy into photography, making pages out of pictures to print and sell, stuff like that. So she will be happy that now she does not have to share with me anymore.
