I am getting 200+ visitors a day, but I am not making any $$. Any suggestions?

While I appreciate your input Brandon, I think we have a big difference of opinion on this. Most people I know do not use Alexa to gauge and analyze their traffic, while Google Analytics is used by practically everyone that I know to determine how much traffic you are getting and where it is coming from. I am glad that Alexa works for you, but I have used Google Analytics for the last 3 years, and the results have been an accurate reflection of my traffic.

Ok. Then I will leave it at this. I have also used Analytics for years. It is not as simple as a single tool, but multiple tools together that give an accurate gauge of your traffic. I am simply confused as to why if you have 200 visitors a day, you aren't making any money. I mean, even with little effort, it seems impossible to not make money with it.

Yes...it does seem impossible. I am confused as well, since the numbers would make you think that I would generate a dollar or two a day every few days. That is why I started this thread - in case someone sees something that I don't, or knows of a program that would make money with this type of site.

Joke viewers are just looking for the jokes, so you could try and force them to see an ad before getting to the joke page

Excellent point. This will determine if those visits are real or not because those scripts are anti-bot.

Put it that way that you need to pay for hosting, for life of website to keep it going, etc. so it will not piss them off

The problem with that is that a lot of people including myself close out those sites without looking further because those surveys are time consuming, and often don't unlock the content. They end up getting your email on multiple lists, which results in spam email.

The required ads with the little skip link work better and turn less people away.

Besides...I have already tried using gateways, and had no success with them. Wish it was "that simple", but unfortunately it isn't.

200 visitors is fairly low to speak of any kind of income for now, since you're not getting much targeted traffic I suppose.

Usually entertainment sites are monetized with ad networks and you'll need a few thousand visitors daily to see a stable and decent income.

A CPA network might work, but you need to test it first and see some real leads first.

You might want to test different squeeze pages and sales pages. They only way you're going to know what the problem is is if you test and see.

I just took a quick look at your site and there is a lot of white space. I could only see 1 advert as well? but no adsense?

Well, if the site performs for others like it just did for me, you have 200 visitors that come, see half of a joke, then leave in frustration becaue they don't get the punch line. Several tries and nothing (I mean NOTHING) was complete. when you didn provide a "more>>" link, the page that displayed didn't have the additional information (the rest of the joke).

I'm viewing using Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 8, though from what I see, that's probably not the problem.

On a second visit, about half of the jokes I tried actually worked, so it was much better than my first experience, but most people wouldn't try a second time, there are way too many joke/funny/entertainment sites out there to poke around with one that doesn't always work well.

Forget about analytics... Look at your actual site statistics, and you'll probably find your average visit is one to three pages, totalling 30 seconds or less. If everyone else's visit was anything like mine, especially my first visit, I'm surprised you get any repeat visits at all.

Just think what you could be getting if you had a site that was actually working. The 200 visitors per day would likely be increasing almost without bounds as more came back again and again.

By the way, selling from a joke site is a tough sell. Many people will visit one every day until they get all the content they can, often without buying anything. It can be very difficult to monetize a joke site, unless you are selling joke books or a "Joke of the day" subscription on their favorite subject. (if you do, it's gotta be pretty cheap, and provide decent jokes most days to keep them from pulling the plug on the subscription).

Thanks for the input Rick - brutally honest, but true. I bought the database a few months ago, and did not realize until later that some of the jokes are incomplete. I plan to buy another one in the near future. The average time on the site is around 3 minutes, so people are staying on for a little while. Since there isn't a specific niche, it is difficult to find a product or offer that will appeal to the average visitor, but there has to be a way to make some money off this thing. I am currently #3 for hilarious jokes and in the top 20 for several other keywords, so the traffic will steadily increase in the coming weeks.

SEO4Hire, People are telling you things and you are dismissing it because you fail to understand. You need to understand that you have a lot to learn. If you ask a question, you should listen to what people are telling you.

200 a day is NOT a lot of traffic. 2000 a day is starting to be a lot of traffic. :)

You're products are not related to your niche. Maybe try Clickbank and see if there are eBooks with jokes there.

I just don't know if this is a good money making niche. People cursing the web for free jokes? I don't know. Maybe it will work.
I had a hard time finding ads on your home page. I saw the one linksys. Pretty girl not sure people looking for jokes are going to buy.
More ads above the fold. More traffic.

Your ranked number four within more than 4000 searches per day on your keyword. Have you looked at the other sites to get ideas on how they are monetizing?

But even if you find a joke book to sell, why would I buy when I can get 40,000 jokes from your website for free?

Tell you what I'd try. I'd put the jokes in an eBook, and sell that for 5 or 10 bucks.
