Hello guys. I had do deliver a speech at front of my class in the university. I've never been front of the class before. when I got there, I was so nervous. some students laughed at me. it's quite embarrassing. I feel sick today, with a massive headache. I can not forget it and I wont go there monday. have this happened to you guys too ?
yes man, its normal thing, u just need to do that more often u have to win the fear, similar thing is with the girls too, u must get it wrong at least 100 times to realize what is the best, so, this your speech was one of those things, just go brave in life and it will return to you
Don't be too embarressed; as ING pointed out above it's a very normal thing. This is a pretty succint article about public speaking confidence which you might find useful. Don't forget, that everyone else in school at some point has had to or will have to go through the exact same thing as you. Frank
ye, and when u read at home, preparing...read so u can hear yourself, it will also help u to remember what u are reading so u will have more space to learn body-language too
I used to preach at my church and just do public speaking all the time. I did it for about 4-5 years. The nervousness never went away, I just learned to cope with it, or so I thought. One day I just quit and went away from everything because I was a nervous wreck. Many sleepless nights. Loss of confidence. Constant fatigue. I am back to normal now. Hasn't done public speaking in 5 years. You're not alone. I should write a book on how crappy public speaking experiences can be!
nah..they are not so hard, all u need is belive in yourself, but sometimes is hard i know, ppl were laughing at him but many of them would do far worse than he done it, i belive, so with this first perfomance he above 50% of ppl around him, or even more, just keep on going Koala, time is on your side
Well if you see girls laughing at you keep in mind they would on almost everything, plus it can also be a sign of admiration so you can be sure some of them are checking on you. If you see boys laughing at you then also don't be bothered because all of them are ordinary wankers who will try their best to get you off track and make you nervous, and they are doing it for fun. You should just carry on with your shit and think about how much you will laugh when those wankers come on stage for their turn to speech. Believe me this happens with everyone even President Obama gets nervous.
This happened for all the perfect speakers including Churchill. Don't loosen your heart. Do go to class on Monday and see who else doing the same like you.
@deluxdon You have over 21 THOUSAND posts. Which means you posted at least 5 THOUSAND posts a year since 2006. WOW!
It will go off once you try it often... Even trying it in between your friends help. 3 Just think that you are the Best!
Relax , get a drink . If you remember that when you where a student there where teachers that you laugh at for nothing or you slept during their class . I still am tribal chief in my faculty aka head of the student league . Students are easy as long as you keep it cool . Not easy if your also trying to put a message out there .
Anyone who does not feel nervous in front of a crowd should not be there in the first place. The key is simply not to let it show. Do NOT get a drink: That will calm your nerves, but open you up to flaws and mistakes. You want to be on top of your game. I found that I would routinely get butterflies 5 minutes prior to stepping on the stage or up to the podium. But the moment I started speaking, the butterflies went away. "Always do the thing that scares you most." You will take away its power.
Most of us, have come across this situation and you can overcome it only through practice by lifting up your self-esteem. Its quite natural but do not grow this coz it might turn severe and leads to Glossophobia http://www.ehow.com/how_7136_overcome-stage-fright.html http://www.nativeremedies.com/ailment/overcome-glossophobia-speech-anxiety.html Hope you would overcome this
Honestly, trying to overcome a public speaking anxiety is useless. I've heard countless people saying that even after 10-15 years of speaking publicly, they still feel nervous and are not sure, at times, why they are doing what they are doing. It can be compared to prickling yourself with a needle. Even if you prickle yourself on purpose for 10 years, although you get used to the pain, the pain is still there. Anxiety is always there as well, you just learn to cope with it. But it doesn't mean it's not destroying you psychologically. Also, increased blood pressure during an acute anxiety is not good for your heart - at all! Now, I am not saying that we shouldn't speak publicly, I am just saying if you are not born to do public speaking, it's better not to do it and keep your health.
I'm horrible at public speaking. I get the feeling. THis is really your first time speaking in front of the class? Mine was around 7th or 8th grade.
Hi Koala, I love giving speeches in front of my class, but i would always have the nervous reserve that the people that i didn't really consider as my friends would tease and snicker - but they only do that out of thier own insecurities.... This one time i remember a student from a few years above my class was about to give a speech (she also had not eaten or drank anything that day yet) and before she could talk she passed out - this was no laughing matter, ever since then i have always (friend or foe) given other people the oppourtunity to relax by my body language, sitting attentivly, small smile and open direct eye contact. Perhaps next time your feeling nervous before getting up to do a speech is look for the people in the crowd that are giving you open and friendly attention - and keep directing them most of your eye contact thought out your speech - If you hear someone laugh just assume that it's coz you said something funny, it might make things a little easier on yourself. Hope i have helped =)
Don't worry man its normal and its happen, People are laughing at you because those man think themselves i am a great in the class or society or in the world. You must be join some classes like YLTS or personality development by such a way you will get some confidence.
