Guys I am adding ads at my two sites and am confused about Channels means what is their purpose and how they can be utilized. I have two sites www.ebooksparadize.com and www.discount.ebooksparadize.com There are two kind of ads 1. Ads those are specific for that site (like text ad with specific color background) 2. Ads those are used at both sites (like simple banner) For example I have two sites and I wish to accumulated data of each site in one line. I don't want that each time I sum up all ads of one site to see how much I am earning from one site. I am sure this can be done by Channels but I am confused about channels. Please help me to understand how I can utilize channels in above senario. Thank you GCS
you could setup individual channels for each individual ad unit and then setup a URL channel to track cumulative figures from that domain.
I am not sure what the simple banner is. Create and name a channel for each of the two domains. Generate the code for each item to be placed. You will have the chance to select the channel as you create the ad. If the simple banner is a google ad only the channel number will change. Place the ads on the page and the next time you have ads displayed and recorded you will see which site got hits and clicks. I usually just use one channel per domain name but you can have one for each page if you want up to the 200 max.
Whenever you get a code for any of the websites, assign a channel to it. In order words, channel are like group or categorizing something to filter the results. You can set two channels with meaningful names like site1Ads, site2Ads etc and once you create the code through the wizard, assign that code to any of the channel and put it on the site you are going to associate this channel to. Then, once the code is there, you will see the stats about each channel on your summary page.
you can setup channels for each of your ad unit and for each of your site. for example, if you are using a 468 x 60 banner for your ebooksparadize.com site, then you can name the channel as ebook-banner. if you are using a banner on discount.ebooksparadize.com then you can name the channel as dis-ebook-banner (or DEBanner). which ever is easy for you to know which ad channel it is
Cannot say better myself. That is why its called channel. You can set different channels for each of your website or web pages up to I think 200. Thanks julieV
It is a way of tracking your ads. For you to know what ads will get high impression and clicks. Thats what i know.
Guys I am thankful to everybody for helping me in understanding channels. The first thing I learn is that all data shown in reports is based on channels. I can't see reports i.e. earning, cpm, ctr, etc by Ad name. I must need to assign a channel to each Ad unit and then see report by channel name. The first confusion that was in my mind that if I can see reports by Ad units then what is purpose of assigning a channel to one ad means one ad one channel. Then after reading comments here in this thread I read reports again and find that all data is Channel wise and there is no way to get data by individual ad type. Now instead of giving examples and assumptions I will give real info what I did to monitor my two sites. I am stuck at some places so please help me. 1. First I created two url channels name discount.ebooksparadize.com & ebooksparadize.com. Now I understand that I will have accumulative data of all ads running on these two sites. I don't need to sum up individual ads to see what is performance of each site. If I want to monitor performance of all ads on each page then I have to create individual url channels for each page like http://www.ebooksparadize.com/adsense.htm. Clear. First I will talk about ebooksparadize.com. I have almost 22 similar pages, same style, etc other than main page. You can see one that I setup few hours before http://www.ebooksparadize.com/adsense.htm 1. I created one Ad Image Unit and name it "336x280, top-r.corner Img EBP" and assigned a channel to this ad unit name "336x280, top-r.corner img EBP". Now I will add this ad unit to all 22 pages at same place. Now I am sure I can see performance of this ad unit "336x280, top-r.corner Img EBP" at all 22 pages. Well, clear 2. I created one Link unit and name it "728x15, top-center lnk EBP" and assigned a channel to this link unit name "728x15, top-center Lnk EBP". I will add this link unit on all 22 pages and will monitor performance of this link unit at all 22 pages by channel name assigned to this linkunit. 3. In same way I created other ads "728x90, top-center Img EBP", "728x90, middle-center Txt EBP", "200x90, middle-right Lnk EBP" and assigned one channel to each ad unit and will add these ad units on same places at all 22 pages to monitor performance of these individual ads on these all 22 pages. Well clear. In above real data I created 5 ad units and 5 channels and assigned one channel to each ad unit. I checked I can assign more than 1 channel to one ad unit, then what is purpose (or how I can utilize) of assigning more than 1 channel to one ad unit in above real data? I want to create less ad units and channels as maximum I can because there is limit of ad units and channels. So I wish I keep ad units and channels in low numbers. My small confusion is if I create one Ad Image Unit (banner) name "468x60, image" and assign a channel name to it "468x60, image both sites" and add this ad to both sites i.e. ebooksparadize.com & discount.ebooksparadize.com then how I can track results of this ad unit on both sites individually. Definitely channel name assigned to this ad unit "468x60, image" will show results of both sites but I want to see this ad unit performance at ebooksparadize.com & discount.ebooksparadize.com individually. Do I must need to create two ads units for two sites and assign one channel to each ad unit for this purpose or there is any way to do this by one ad unit? I am sure my understanding about channels is almost done once I get reply to above questions. Thanks everybody for helping me. GCS
Its simple. Just create two channels for each of the ads of your sites. And you will be able to track the clicks and earning of that particular site. - Digital -
You mean as follows: Ad name: "468x68 top-center image" Channel 1: Ebooksparadize Channel 2: Ebooksparadize-discount But how AdSense will monitor separate clicks because I checked there is no "Channel Name" in AdSense code? I read somewhere that Channel name is mentioned in AdSense code but in my codes there is no channel name at all? GCS
You must create the ad after you create the channels 1 and 2 using your example. The code should look like this: I sustituted 0x or x0 for the real numbers that appear here.
I think this is the reason why I can't see Channel data in AdSense code. I did not create channel first and after saving each ad unit I created channel and then assigned to ad unit. So do I need to ad channel names manually in each code? If I don't ad, what is disadvantage of not adding channel name to AdSense code? GCS
I created one test channel first and then 1 test ad and added channel to ad before saving but still there is no channel data in ad code? What might be the problem? If I wish to add Channel code to each ad then what will be line? As follows? google_ad_channel = "x0x0x0x0x0x0"; Or two lines google_ad_channel = "x0x0x0x0x0x0"; google_ui_features = "rc:6"; GCS
