The problems started on 3rd January 2006. I recieved a payment notification from paypal for $299/- Which is price of one of my scripts. I emailed the buyer and sent him the copy of my script. Then after 14 days I get an email from paypal that the buyer was using a fraud creditcard. So The $$$ money went away. Same thing kept happening for 2 times more. This time I waited for 30 days before sending my scripts. And when I sent the scripts I got an email again from paypal that the CC was farud and I was also charged $20 for the chargeback. They released my scripts on warez and I had a hardtime sending emails to upload sites to bring that script down. Now today again I got a notification of payments recieved for $299/- But the buyer is from some Arab country and is a NON-MEMBER. Means maybe he had used a creditcard for sending me the payments. So again same problems. Should I give scripts to the buyer. Because If I don't then the buyer will file a complaint against me for not recieving the goods after purchase. And If I send him the scripts and again paypal tells me after one month that this was a fraud credit card then I am in a hole. Please let me know how can I get out of this mess. Thanks.
There is no easy solution to this. Maybe what you can do is use 2checkout as a payment gateway, and that ways they do the fraud verification, although that does not mean the user can not do a chargeback.
Paypal sucks for fraud prevention, you need to do some of your own. You should request a land-line phone number so you can contact people for verification, that would help. good luck
That's a good idea, and since your product is $299, calling anywhere in the world for 1-3 minute call should not cost more then a few $$. In most cases less then a 1$.
Thanks friends. For your tips. I think I will haveto choose some other services for this. And this time I don't want to get scammed. Thanks a lot for your support.
There are 2 comments I want to make: First I want to see the scripts that people so desperately want that they are willing to use fraudulent means to acquire them. It must be very useful or people would not go to such lengths. Secondly, you might consider using Western Union as a payment method. Have the money in hand before sending out the scripts.
The script is called SchoolScript which has every feature for school management and it is very advanced its Documentation consist of 632 pages. It took me 8 months to code it.
Since your product is $300, don't use paypal. Use a different payment processor that does better fraud prevention and insist on a phone number so you can call the person. Paypal is ok for a few bucks, but not $300 per sale.
A related issue: Anyone remember PayMe.com, it was an Idea Lab company back in 2000. I sold some laker playoff tickets, just around this time in 2000. The buyer claimed his paypal limit had been reached and so we used payme.com. He paid me $1100 for 2 tix. Anyway, once the money showed in my account, I sent him the tickets. Same basic story, after I sent the tix, Payme.com told be it was fraud and took my money. Of couse, the game had passed and I was screwed. This had been an ebay sale, so I did a ton of research and found that he had bought and scammed some people before me. One of those people told me that the buyers account had been flagged for fraud, by payme.com and he had an email to that effect, before my sale went through. When I heard that I was livid. I had a laywer friend write a letter, telling payme.com that they violated the basic premise of their operation. If they had flagged his account and then still let me proceed with a transaction. I demanded they pay me the $1100 within a set time. To my surprise they actually paid. I know my case was rare, but if PayPal had any reason to suspect fraud before your sale, and failed to let you know, they may be liable for continuing to let him use the system. I would be very curious who he dealt with prior to you. P.S. They guy who scammed me 6 years ago is still on my list: And trust me, I have a file on that punk, and I don't forget getting scammed. If I ever find this punk again, I will make sure he knows he screwed with the wrong person.
Well I had one more clue if it can be useful. That guy emailed me and said that he made a payorder. paypal order num: 3xx0-6xxx-xxxx-xxx2 He wrote this to me. So can I be sure he had made some kind of echeck. You see I also don't want to lose a client by scaring him off and asking useless questions about his purchase.
Why don't you ask the local bank in your city about credit card processing? Even though they might charge you on a higher rate but it is still better than lossing the whole thing. Am i right?
I agree this trick would help. Not to mention the buyer's identity card (censoring some important info) as well, just to make sure both cards have the same name.
Well it is good to check but who would be so stupid to give you his credit card information? and if the guy was cheating, it is so easy to make a fake one on photoshop and fax it to you. Am i right?
I suppose that is not the only way to verify of course. Getting a better mechant processing service is the best option still. A combination of verification steps certainly will help isn't it?
