    Hi There, nice forum!

My name is Mike, I have been running a couple of e-commerce websites for the past 4 years. My main marketing techniques were ppc (google / overture (yahoo sm / msn / miva / kanoodle and about 10 more small ppc's)

I have marketed through affiliate network systems (cj, linkshare, clixgalore)

about 2 days ago, my wholesaler offered my to buy an "opt-in" email list with about 900 Million emails (I'm not joking that's what he said) he wants me to buy from him these opt-in email lists to increase my sales. (he did not charge me for them) however all these emails look really crappy.

I started my research earlier today (spent already 15 hours or so) I have been trying to organize the "opt-in" marketing in my head. I have been trying to answer myself - who are the top players, who provides real targeted lists, what are the average prices.. I have researched on Google answers (rip) and in Yahoo answers. I couldn't find any good information to rely on. I haven't quite understood who are the top players for buying mailing lists, I mean it is so unorganized, there are literally thousands of companies listed in directories / natural search results / Google ad sense - offering opt-in lists, it's hard decision whether to utilize their services or not, especially when you want to expand your online marketing techniques.. their prices are really high for these lists..

I have been reading on marketing experiments http://www.marketingexperiments.com (very good website.. I learned a lot from there) that Mail marketing is a really good way to market a product..

So I'd thank anyone who can give me a good head start on where to invest and buy opt-in lists.

To summarize my question: Are there any top players that provide good quality --> targeted opt-in lists.. who's the google adwords / yahoo sm / msn ppc players for opt-in lists :)

P.S. Sorry for my bad grammar, My mother language is not English.
    Thanks.
    Mike

first of all, buying opt-in lists won't work for you in the long run. to build a high-quality list, one you can profit from, is to build YOUR OWN list.

the only other alternative is for you to JV with someone who has his own list. but you have to be prepared to make a very good offer for the prospective partner

An "opt-in" email list with 900 Million emails is surely spam. I'd suggest you shouldnt use it. This can lead your site to be considered one of those 'spammy sites' out there and wouldn't be good for your sites 'image'.

I purchased 850 Million OPT-IN Email addresses from MassivePublicity.com (now I don´t even know what they do, got my sites blacklisted by my host because they recieved so many complaints. I no longer trust or use email. Better to budge with your niche throug banner exchange or linkexchange.
