I am a Physical Therapist, but I know basic webdesign. I purchased a domain in goaddy and I would like to create a website about physical therapy werein users should register. How will I start. Do you know a website that gives tutorials about a site that teaches how to make a site which allows users to log in?

Do you want the entire site to be restricted to registered uses?
Do you want a forum type site?

The easy way is to install some script and then create the look you want. We need a little more information to give a better answer.

You build the public content like a regular site.

In a sub-directory of the main site, you password protect the member part and it sounds like you use a wiki script for that portion of the content. You could also use one of the CMS scripts that allows multiple users.

    Thanks Colbyt

Do you know a website tutorial for dummies regarding that. I really dont understand some terms like CMS...to give you an overview, I only know the basics like tables, and the very basic html basic tags such as href, etc. I just really dont know where to start but I am a fast learner

CMS stands for Content Management System, and is something that you install on your host account and gives you an backend admin panel through which you can edit most of your site's content!
but if you something like wiki you can use MediaWiki
the site has documents for installing and everything!

My second sig link below is running a basic Wordpress install. It can be auto installed from every hosting control panel I have ever seen. It is also free. It is really blog and not CMS software. It is fairly easy to learn. It can handle more than one article writer.

To control the content flow you would need it in a sub-directory and you would need to turn off all the RSS features ans such. How you want to control the membership for reading purposes is another challenge. Is this membership free or paid? Free you can do with a simple .htaccess file where everyone has the same username and password to enter. For paid you need a scripted solution.

or you could start with a free template you find on the net and if things go ok you can pay someone to do a new site for you. here's a nice list of sites where you can find free templates: http://www.freetemplatesproviders.com/
