Hypothetical page moving question

    What would happen if I moved all of the content from my site, husky-floor-liners.com and moved it to an older domain name in a sub directory like, truckimprovement.com/husky-floor-liners/? (old domain name and PR of 2)

    If I did a 301 redirect, would google transfer all of the link building I have done on husky-floor-liners.com to the new url?

    Just curious. Its something I've thought about doing because right now one thing that is hurting me in the SE's is the age factor. Husky-floor-liners.com is still under a year old, so it keeps bouncing in and out of Google. Does fairly well in the other SE's though.

    Personally, I would leave it. Domain age is not THAT big of a factor. If the domain is approaching 6 months of age, it is likely going to completely be a non-issue very soon.

    But if you still want to move those pages, yes... a 301 redirect should pass the PR and credit for inbound links to the new URLs on truckimprovement.com.

    Thanks! I think I've come to the same conclusion. I will probably leave it.

    While we are on the subject though, what if I did move it and do a 301 redirect to a page that already had a PR of 2. Would the page that I moved with a PR of 2 be added to the new page with a PR of 2 to make a page of PR 4?

    Thanks,

    Andy

    I'm not sure about the math of pr 2 coming to pr 4 but I think if you do a redirect and move the pages you should see some positive numbers on your pr; by how much, I'm not sure.

    PR2 + Redirected (PR2) != PR4

    PR is a logarithmic scale... So PR2+PR2 might = PR2 or PR3 but not likely a PR4. But again, I try not to worry too much about PR. It has little influence on how your page ranks for a particular keyword phrase. I would concentrate more on what link text is used to link to your pages.

    Why do you care about what PR it attains?

    Canonical hit the nail on the head...when you start redirecting domains something usually always gets lost in the translation..upon redirecting one of my domains I lost some rankings but also gained some rankings in other areas. It's just a weird beast that is best left avoided if at all possible. What's probably holding your domain back at this point is Onpage and Offpage seo; make a checklist and check it twice, Santa style :) only less fun but the presents will be your traffic/PR. Best of luck.
