I know that hyphenated words in filenames improves SEO performance, but does this also apply to domains? For example, which would perform better when searching for "my domain name": 1) www.my-domain-name.com or 2) www.mydomainname.com
I personally think that Google may have a filter that targets domain names with too many hyphens. This technique is most commonly used by spammers who buy hundreds of feeder domains. Your visitors may not remember all the hyphens in your domain name either. So I would go for the domain name without the hyphens. Most people resort to hyphenated domains when their preferred .com is taken.
Thanks for the advice I've done quite a bit of Googling and the general concensus does seem to be that it's best to avoid hyphens in domains but to use them in directories and filenames.
I would better take mydomainname.com. I don`t know what is better for you, but I`d like more mydomainname.com. I will follow posts here, really want to know other opinions.
Try buying a hyphenated name versus the same name without hyphens and the non hyphenated version would almost always be more expensive. The marketplace therefore answers your question as to which domain is most important and ipso facto which one will rank higher and pull adsense ads better
