Hyperthetical marketing spend (for the moment!)

Ok, Let assume (I know you shouldn't as it makes a ASS out of U & ME!) I have a hyperthetical (for the moment) $500/year to spend on SEO for my web site.

I already have good Google placements for the more obscure of my Keywords but could really do with improving my main keyword rankings, this keyword should bring me far more traffic to my site.

What in your opinion is the best way to go about it?

    Should I buy Google adwords?
Pay for links - if so are fewer PR6+ links better than 000's of PR4 and below?
Pay to mass submit (manual) to directories?
A combination of all the above?
    Your own suggestions?

How would you spend this $500?

Answers on a post card or here! Whilst this is hyperthetical (ATM) it may just become a reality!
