I've got some tomatoes and chillis started (in dirt), and an ultra simple hydroponic DWC system all ready to roll once my seeds germinate. All inside a cheap little grow tent with CFLs. Baby steps at the moment, and trying to do it on the cheap. Anyone else into growing things inside?
I'm pretty sure I preempted your comment with the *sigh* in the thread title.
A member of my local hydroponics club. Will upload pics later of my wonderful setups. Can't post the site cuz I'm not allowed to put URLs in my post. Edit: OP is that your setup or just a reference pic? If so you got more pics? I've spent a lot of money on my setup thus far. Will post pics soon
Really? Yes, it's my VERY simple setup. Probably at least 2 weeks away from dropping my rockwool seedlings (in bags and top tray) into the hydroponic system. (Non hydro) Bhut Jolokia and Jalapeno both germinated and have been repotted since my last post. ------- Yeah, sorry. Sometimes I just think it's pointless trying to start a thread on DP and get any sensible replies. Unless it's something like "are you ever kissed a girls?!" I have to keep reminding myself that the average age here is about 12, and that most people with anything interesting to contribute are long gone.
Wow what a nice setup here. Perfect hydroponic setup there. That setup looks more like a greenhouse. Any ways what are the nutrients you apply for thee tomato and chili. That will be interesting one.
do you do this because you haven't got the space? i ask because tomatoes and chillis are fairly fast growing plants.
I grow food outside too, but I've wanted to get into hydroponics for a while, so I figured I may as well try it in winter when there's not much going on outside. No chance of growing much outside at the moment - it's currently 3°C outside Also, I'm finding that hydroponics is like Lego for grown ups - it's fun to build stuff I just made another 4 mini bubblers to grow silverbeet (chard) on my kitchen bench. actually that was a stupid question remember you are from rural Vic so you likely have acres of land for a backyard lol. the chillis i've been growing have been out of this world and i can usually stand a bit of heat they've been growing weird though some have been green while others are red i think they have a personality disorder. i can see the benefit of a hydro setup especially with the choppers that are constantly scanning the inland rural areas for patches jokes jokes. seriously though can see how it can be useful with growing typically slow to grow plants.
Unfortunately I'm in mining country... so my "backyard" is mostly rocks and arsenic. I grew up in an area (outer east of Melbourne) notorious for *forest plantations*, and we would see/hear choppers all the time. Never seen or heard choppers snooping around here though. It's actually an event for a helicopter to fly over my house. I run outside like an 8 year old to see what's happening.
Use proper nutrient in each growing stage. For example pH perfect bloom, grow and micro. pH perfect means you don't have to worry for pH balancing. Pest control is also important. Also use proper grow light which works similarly like the sun. So that tree can generate food for itself.
@Kerosene I don't know if you ever log in anymore, but using the "Ignore this member" option does the trick. I am ignoring a few members myself and my life has never been easier on this forum. We are in Florida and my wife was thinking of getting a garden tower to grow either vegetables or fruits (like strawberries). It's really a hot thing here. I'd definitely consider growing strawberries. We can pretty much grow them all year round here.
