Here in the UK a nice big storm has been brewing along the South Coast and here in London there has been a few loud and prolonged rumbles of thunder (which is nice!) ... though the rain is horrid. For the past few days actually the weather has been horrid here. Though talking of weather the Atlantic Hurricane Season "officially" kicks off this Sunday, I'm hoping that none do a U-Turn and head towards the UK... eeek! However hopefully you American's are prepared? Oh also something I did read on the BBC News website the other day... they were reporting that scientists have said that the warmer the globe gets the less likely there will be big hurricanes (like Cat 3/4+). Mad ain't it.
Other Hurricane / Typhoon / Cyclone Seasons have started (usually April / May) however the Atlantic one doesn't start till 1st June... so everything is running as normal.
Here in the US we have had tornado's running rampant all over the country, more than I have ever seen in one year, so I'm really wondering what the Hurricanes are gonna be like later on.
Well, I know a woman that lives on one of the islands in the Florida Keys and she said that the water's been unusually warm early on, even during the middle of fire season (remember, Florida only has three seasons - winter, fire, and hurricane ). She said in a lot of ways that it reminded her of the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, and with the National Weather Service and NOAA predicting an active hurricane season this year (9 named storms of 75+mph, IIRC), it could prove to be a rather wet and wild season this year.
You will be pretty suprised. Though if not a Hurricane you'll get at least a Tropical Storm or Sub-Tropical Storm hit you ever now and then.
Agreed. In fact, if I recall, NYC was hit with a hurricane once or twice - would have to check with a meteorologist to confirm though. But I do know the threat is very real.
Yep, that would be them. Also don't forget "the perfect storm" (which would have been called Hurricane Henri despite having absorbed Hurricane Grace that year), which still caused a lot of havoc in New England despite most of the damage being done in Massachusetts and New Jersey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_Halloween_Nor’easter
