It's been getting really crazy here (Baton Rouge, LA). Our news is filled with hurricane information and I have been refreshing http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.shtml?5day?large#contents like a maniac for the past two days. Looks like we are in for quite the hit. We are already out of tons of supplies! I went shopping a few days ago and had to settle for four 1 gallon gas cans that I was able to find at a gas station (which had no gas!). No more battery powered fans, food running very low in stores, etc. I hope everyone in the path is ready! If you leave near the coast it is definitely time to get out. Don't be stubborn and stick this one out. It's not going to be worth it.
I'm in north west Louisiana (near Shreveport) and everyone's running up here. We're expecting bad weather and winds. Of course not like down there. It's expected to turn into a category 5 hurricane by the time it hits our shores.
http://media.2theadvocate.com/images/300*225/gulf_sat6am_083108.jpg It's huge! Yeah, it doesn't matter where you are in LA at this point. You are going to get awful amounts of rain and wind anywhere. Looks like Baton Rouge will get a much worse hit than we did with Katrina so we may end up going a bit north as well. It's really the aftermath I am more worried about. I love my air conditioning!! lol
I've always lived in Houston and when Rita & Katrina hit, it was really bad. I would say apx. 80% of the citizens of New Orleans came to Houston.. Looks like New Orleans is more prepared though. Now its just a matter of time..
It's going to hit much earlier than originally anticipated. We should start seeing the chaos being around midnight to 2am tonight. Hopefully everyone has made it to a safe spot...or as safe as it gets anyway.
I'm so sorry for all of those who have to go through it. I can't imagine what it's like not knowing what's going to happen to your family, pets and belongings. Try to stay safe and get as far away as possible.
Im here in Ireland and have been watching WDSU 6 louisiana on Streamick. I hope those who chose to stay in the area will be Ok.
Tornado has touched down nearby already (8:00 - 8:30), but all I saw was some rain from it. Not sure if any damages occurred. Seems like ole Gustav is already causing some problems!
