Well the national media loves these stories, Panama City Beach was supposed to be hit yesterday, it was nothing (Bonnie), but they are evacuating Tampa as we speak since Charlie is packing 125-140 MPH winds right now.

Most of the folks from Tampa drive up here to Panama City to hide out

I saw the aftermath of the one that hit Dade County a few years back - not a pretty sight.

Hope you all come through it OK.

You mean Andrew that hit in the early 90's, completely destroyed Homestead, FL, yeah I seen that when I took a trip to the Florida keys.

That was the BIG ONE. A lot of homeless and helpless folks on the street after that one.

Problem is; you never know what a horrorcane is gonna do. We got lucky again in my area, barely even got rain.

Scary stuff. In 1999; when Irene hit; I had to drive home in it; because my job wouldn't let us leave early.

I was on vacation in Canada for Andrew, not that it hit my area.

    Yes, that's the one.

I had to drive through the Homestead area about 6 months after it, and the devastation was still very visible.

Yes but just think of all the money made by construction companies, banks and real estate developers.

You would not know it even happened now, a lot of cash was put in there after the destruction.

The cost of insurance is forcing some folks to sell their homes near the coast.

Me, I just take my chances, I ain't that smart, nor is the dwelling worth that much that I live in.
