Hundreds of keywords - methodical strategy

I'm starting to feel slightly overwhelmed by the increasing number of keywords I'm having to target. Was just wondering if anyone else out there is trying to catch hundreds of keywords in the one website.

If so, do you find it more effective to concentrate on one at a time, or try and build them all up evenly.

Try to focus on several keywords.
Because if you try to optimize site for big number of keywords you will not rank
    good for any of them.

Yes much easier to get a few important keywords of your sites theme and try to rank for them. This will also get much more targeted traffic to your site.

Also - once you've got your main keywords ranking well, it's easier to start ranking for the rest of your list on your subpages.

I typically select a group of *core* keywords when I begin a new site, and dedicate a separate page to 1-3 of the keywords at a time. Once I've optimized the site for these keywords, I then add others a few at a time. To select my *core* keywords, I choose the ones with the highest possible search count : competition ratio.
