Rubbish! It's nothing to do with oil. That is disingenuous and smacks of ignorance of the situation. Britain has been trying for years to influence and change what's happening in Zimbabwe, even providing humanitarian aid.

The other African countries' leaders welcome Mugabe with rapturous applause and do not even raise a single criticism against him. Yet according to some in this thread, Britain is supposed to be the country to change things. I fail to see how this is the UK's problem in any way, shape or form. It's an African problem.

of course it is nothing to do with oil, because zimbabwe doesn't have any.
the argument here is that if it did have oil the west would be all over it like a rash.
however, thankfully this is not the case, otherwise this could have developed into another middle eastern style quagmire.
as for white farmers and managers being forcibly removed from their land/positions, i can understand a black majority being infuriated by the fact that whites who were in the minority owned the most land in zimbabwe, but of course i do not agree with how those whites were treated by mugabe and his henchmen.
the thing is we are not talking about mugabe and those who support him, we are talking about ordinary zimbabweans, a people who are are being brutalised on a daily basis, and are helpless to resist.
for my part i don't really care if other african nations are turning away, though it is my understanding that this is not strictly the case, for abject poverty and disease has ravaged many countries on that continent, i only care about what my nation does about this problem. just because others wash their hands of a desperate nation doesn't mean that we have be as bad.
