    Russia Should Investigate, Prosecute Crimes

(New York, August 29, 2008) – Recent satellite images released by the UN program UNOSAT confirm the widespread torching of ethnic Georgian villages inside South Ossetia, Human Rights Watch said today. Detailed analysis of the damage depicted in five ethnic Georgian villages shows the destruction of these villages around the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali, was caused by intentional burning and not armed combat.

I would do the same if my city gets bombed. A war is a war. Strange, that this satellite DID NOT spot the whole south ossetian city in ruins and spots only tiny georgian villages  Its a game of who serves whom ;)

The burning and looting were commited by the same North Ossestian, Cossack and Chechen militia. For a week prior to the the Georgian offensive, the militias were shelling Georgia and busloads of militia were arriving from Southern Russia.

The North Ossestian, Cossack and Chechen militias further went on a ramage once they received the backing of the Russian army. Cities inside Georgia such as Gori and Poti have been looted and many villiages burned to the ground.

Good. They pay the price of what they started. Some volunteers went there from my region too, to help South Ossetia. And a lot more people went to fight against Georgia in 1994 in Abkhaziya. Thats what saved them.

If Saakashvili thought it will be easy to knock down all the south ossetians just in 1 night, he was mistaken. Its a tight region here, and if someone attacks one small nation - be prepared for other nations to help them.

" All of this adds up to compelling evidence of war crimes and grave human rights abuses. This should persuade the Russian government it needs to prosecute those responsible for these crimes. "
