Huge unexpected traffic

    My best guess would be that someone has bought some traffic and made an error when entering their URL and you picked it up. If it's the general traffic you can buy for peanuts then you won't get any clicks on anything as it's generally useless. To be sure either add Google analytics or more simply try statcounter. This will tell you exactly where the traffic is coming from.

    5k+ visits and only <1MB bandwidth? Are they 10s or less visits?

    Don raises a valid point, compare Jan 13th with Jan 18th... both use around 870k of bandwidth, but the difference in pages served is 35 vs. 9,490. 9,490 pages in 870k of bandwidth is 0.09kb per page. It's not real traffic.

    Check the referring sites section of awstats, but i think it's someone messing/cheating you.

    Have You used Google Analytics? -- just like Tony Marriot's suggestion. Try it Friend...,perhaps You'll get different result/summary...

    I like GA better than AW. AW tended to inflate my numbers a bit more....

    Like you I had a boost in visitors - double in one day! - it was nice, got traffic from posting on a forum. Hope some of it sticks around!
