In one day I went from ~300 visitors a day to over 500. I went from my max of 250 from Google per day to over 350! Did this happen to anyone else? Is it some algorithm change? Because I haven't been building links or anything. I just noticed this on my visitor stats for yesterday. Take a look: I'm an SEO researcher and even I have trouble explaining this. It must have been an algorithm change. Anyone else affected?
Check your anlaytics, it will provide you the details in traffic sources that from which website you got this much traffic?
May be your keywords ranking have improved or you have received this traffic through any other referral source. check in your analytics.
did you check the page rank, may be your competitor is out of competition for Google PR update policy.
You might have asked for reconfirmation but from his statement, I think he was getting traffic from Google only: In one day I went from ~300 visitors a day to over 500. I went from my max of 250 from Google per day to over 350! And moreover he said that he was an SEO researcher. So he knew what he was talking about.
Also had this with 2 of my websites last week. It had something to do with new annoucements of a product where i was already ranked on in Google.
i do agree with Mit. You better check your analatics regarding the visits for that day. Check out direct traffic, keywords that brought such visitors. If direct traffic source remains the same then check the refferal traffic source.
If you've been using Google analytics, you should by now find out how and why .. Yes, the search algorithm which was changed a month back shows the effect. btw @ all, why does Google doesn't update any pagerank ?
I use Piwik because it's open source and it stores everything on my databases. Most of the new traffic was from Google and some was because my review of some products was listed on sites for Black Friday deals. It's strange because those sites are high PR but they linked to me with a gateway page which is a 302 redirect and that shouldn't be passing on authority. I look at all the reports one day after and it looks like this high trend extended onto yesterday.
