My Yahoo backlinks quadrupled Thursday morning. They are now very close to the number recorded by MSN. And way ahead of Google.

They must have had some major update.

Results for some keywords are all over the place, while other keywords have very little change.

In comparison to Google, it looks like Yahoo is simply changing their algorithm to show a significant difference in results than the competition.

There seems to be no consistency between page rank, back links and page volume between the top rated sites across different keywords.

One of my sites that probably has around 3k BLs shows 11.7k using link:.

Another of my sites, should probably be around 7k BLs, but Y! is showing 24.6k.

To me, there is no way these numbers are correct.

I have also seen my site coming out of Y sandbox as well.

Does anyone has any explanations for this BL increase?

    Yeah,

I noticed this morning, but I hadn't checked it in a week. I don't know what the problem is over at Y!. My Bl's jumped from 150K to 1.1M and 1057 pages indexed. Funny thing is I only have 270 totla pages. Anyway I just checked again and it seems to be back normal. At least for now.

For my Fan Club site, Y! now shows a correct number for link: about 7k. But, for linkdomain: it shows 25k still. Very strange indeed.

Fortunately, I've now returned to the #5 spot in SERPs. For the last couple of weeks, I've been about #12 or so.

I just found this tonight, trying to see why a competitor's backlinks jumped...
    http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=link:http://www.belahost.com/&ei=UTF-8&b=211

There are pages and pages of stats for websites there; the fact that they all show the above site as a referrer (from the main site) means probably referrer spam.

But the point is that Yahoo indexed them, although it would be easy to filter them.

Seems that Yahoo is indexing and counting anything and everything. Perhaps this is why so many are showing spikes in backlinks?

What causes the wild fluctuations in the rankins. I see this happen often with Yahoo and MSN. Occasionally Google goes down to 0 Bu ut comes back quickly. Anyone know?

    Thanks
