My site just went from number 6 on the first page of google to the bottom of page 4! I made no changes to the site either, what is happening?

There could be a lot of reasons why. Is the site new? How competitive is the keyword? What kind of backlinks are you getting? Natural / paid / etc.? Google has a ton of factors so you simple question will be hard to answer.

Look at the competition to figure out how they are ranking and you can do it to in most cases ;)

It's not the first post about this today. Hang in there, there might be a small dance happening.

Make sure you haven't done anything considered "black hat". (Even though I personally disagree with calling anything "white hat").

There seems to be a lot or juggling going on. My ranks are moving all over the place. Just ride the tide for a while.

I am facing the same problem since "Universal Search" system launched by Google. I don't have seen any positive change. Yet I have loosed up to 50% of my Google traffic.

The best is don't rely solely on Google for traffic, but if you really really have to, then it is imperative to constanly and faithfully build up backlinks and get all the advice on backlinking from the real experts.

Now that they mix in YouTube videos, they are effectively pushing us down the page with links to their own sites.

this is not a new thing, may be your competetor doing more promotional stuff thats why the ranking fluctuates and everybody want to become on top in SERP's.

universal search seems to make a lot of difference to most of the websites. I guess it will take some time till we get educated on how to rank higher with the new algo.

it isn't the first topic I have seen to suggest that G is altering their algos. As long as you haven't done anything blackhat I wouldn't worry.

Just sit tight and if your rankings are still dodgy in a week or so, ask again and give us an URL so we can help further!
