Huge Mistake on a Well performing SEO site.

Hello, i have a site that is almost 1 year old, with 0 SEO experience just by reading here and there i was able to place my site on over 20 keywords or sentences for my niche. And about 8 keywords consisting of 2 words that were bringing all together about 1000 uniques per day. I won't tell you my niche to avoid copycats. But here is an example : i was ranking let's say : upload games, download games, online games. Which has like 2-10 millions results.
I was ranking 2nd on google, 3rd on google and 2nd on google and so on. So about 2 weeks ago i look on my statcounter and click on keywords analysis and saw that i was starting to get clicks very little from the main keyword . In this example: let's say GAMES , just one word. And i check i was ranking about 3rd to 4th page of that main word on google.
So i got greety and decide to change my title to try to get better position on the main word. ***Huge but really, the biggest mistake ever***
Today i go to my statcounter and saw my traffic dropping almost 70%
checked the keywords and none of my previous good ranking keywords are there. So in other words i lost all my rankings , now am like on 4th-5th page, instead of 4th or 2nd position on main page. I am pulling my hair !

Anyone has any suggestions? I am scared that if i change back my title it will back fire since i heard google serp hates when you change too often title.

    All suggestions are welcome.

NEVER EVER change the titles of good performing pages. But I think now u have already learned the lesson :)

Revert back to original titles and there are good chances it will get the original position. If you have edited the page content, just check google cache and try to get everything as it is.

    Well, that sucks. I know it's a costly lesson, but it's a good 1 2 learn.

This may just be a minor bleak spot while Google re-analyses your site to calculate the best rankings, providing you didn't change your title THAT much.

Poseidon is right though. Revert your title and page back to how it was and there shouldn't be too much damage done.

I believe if we change the title and description on a page we could lose the ranking for that page for every keyword phrases. maybe the page is put in some kind of sandbox for a while before the new ranking takes place. hopefully that is the case.

Oh, my god actually i just found out digging on my site , that is not the one word i added to my title that send me last on google, it is actually my hosting company i asked them to upgrade my script and gave them files to compare for the update , and they didnt they just overwrote them , so i found that that all my meta tags , keyword are totally blank! I want to kill them!

meta tags wouldnt usually make that much difference. keyowords meta is virtually worthless, a lot dont even bother with them anymore. description only because thats whats show in your Google listing.

far more likely to be the title change

better to wait couple of weeks more. new meta tags makes SE re-compute and re-crawl the whole sites. if the serp still bad, better to revert to previous settings.

btw, adding more keyword into your meta tags also can weaken the pages.
plz submit more details for more analysis..

If you're ranking high for a certain KW and page, leave it be unless you're making a substantial SEO investment into the changes. Instead, create a subpage, i.e.: homepage.com/new-kw.html, and pass on the PR and SEO work to the new page. You never want to go against the grain with google, just make it easier for G to rank and keep your site up.

Is it the responsibility of your web hosting company to update your pages for you? Don't you have FTP access to your account?

    Hold on in there...

I have had this too several times...

Once your domain is 'aged' and 'trusted' it doesnt make as much difference providing the title is still good

Wait a week or so and you will rise back up Im sure
